Well now I know what I want to make my office into!!!! Funny thing, I see that rack of clothing, and saw my coat!!! The pink one from Anthropologie! That is such a cool idea. Make it into a huge walk in closet. Who needs a guest room!?!!

I LOVE THIS PLACE!! I love that this is RENTAL and it shows that you can make a rental "your own." The three words any girl wants to hear in their life,--"Rent controlled apartment." Good for you! All that work very much paid off. I think many times apartment therapy does great house tours, but they are tours of houses people own. So seeing a rental is always a really great way to get perspective and inspiration. Love the gray colors and I might have to try it myself in my rental here in Chicago. This is my new inspiration!

This is cute but to me it screams "chick's apartment." Pink? It's so girlie. Not really a place I see the dude kickin' back watching a Bears game in. The only element that looks manly is the dark walls and leather sofa.

When I was a teenager, my parent's actually LET me spray-paint my walls in my room. It was great. It let me be creative and express my "teenage angst." And we just painted over it after it was turned into a guest room. I agree that it's important to let kids express themselves creatively.

Wow, I'm realizing what a great place I have an am happy I chose to stay, as the rental market in Chicago STINKS right now! I have HUGE windows in the bedroom, office and living room. I'm on the top floor. I live in Bucktown which has become pretty gentrified but still sketchy.

- Top floor. (Or at least quiet upstairs neighbor.)
- Laundry, at least in building.--- I lived in L.A. and had no laundry. Laundry-mats are scary scary places
- Windows / Sunlight / Fresh air
- Decent water pressure!! Showers with a slight drip aren't gonna cut it.

I wish I had a dishwasher!!!

I love this. I totally believe small spaces help you clear your mind. And help you to be more productive. I think the toilet / shower combo at the Longman and Eagle hotel in Chicago was similar, yet very useful. They kept the mirror outside of the bathroom. The steam from the shower will make it incredibly steamy.

I also LOVE mint.com especially since I work 100% freelance so for me being able to TAG items as write offs within Mint's site is awesome.

I just started clipping coupons maybe 2 months ago. My friend got me a subscription to a magazine called ALL YOU. And yes, it's pretty cheesy, but it's full of coupons! And a lot of them are GREAT coupons and don't expire for longer than the ones you find in the newspaper.

And yes, I sit on a Sunday and clip coupons but relax doing it! I clip coupons, drink some coffee, and listen to some music. Has saved me a TON thus far. And I don't care if I look like a crazy lady from Extreme Couponing, with my little folder and coupons. I save a ton!!

Also I sign up with e-rewards. Which you take online surveys and get points, then those turn into gift cards. I've been a member for YEARS and have earned many Macy's gift cards or I trade them for Delta Sky Miles. Once I actually was asked to participate in a focus group, where I was paid $150 for an hour! Good deal!

Mint is honestly so safe, even Kevin Rose from Digg.com uses it!! Don't be afraid of giving them your account information! IT IS THE BEST! It texts me when my account is low, it texts me when I have a large deposit, etc. and the budgeting is amazing.

If I do a credit card it is for sure American Express green card. The pts. are great and you pay it off every single month. It's a charge card not a credit card.

Ha! I had someone post about me on "Missed Connections." Pretty cool. This is a gorgeous art piece and makes it even cooler to recognize the hilarious nature of Missed Connections. In Chicago I went to a "dramatic reading" (comedy) of people reading REAL Missed Connections. It was SO funny! But this turns funny into beautiful.

I totally agree about the SUBLET listing. I live in an awesome walk up in Bucktown. My apt. rent actually went DOWN this year! But the great thing about sublets is you get in on someone else's lease so you pay what they pay and then your rent doesn't go up very high.

I also have found my whole life on craigslist. Furniture, my job, apt. car, etc.

Its all about timing and looking at everything. Reader, walking around the neighborhood you want, CL. etc.

And also LOOK EARLY!! Cause my place I went the day it was posted on CL and I had to send my application that same day Sunday!! By Monday AM. there were 15 people who wanted the place but haha,---I snagged it!

Good luck to everyone searching! Busy times in Chicago to move / find a place is October and May.

Yes. I totally put a bandana on my head like a cleaning lady or AKA a gang member. But it keeps my hair from getting gross. And yeah, I wear those tacky yellow rubber gloves so I don't need to get my hands gross. I also love aprons but that's for cooking not cleaning.

I live in Chicago. I have the BEST landlord I've ever had in my life. I've lived all over the country including Los Angeles, and I love this Mngmt. Co. A. Saccone and Sons. I call them when my buzzer isn't working and they have someone come that week. I had a few things break the first month I was there, and they had it fixed NEXT DAY. I couldn't be happier here in the Bucktown area of Chicago. But, I've had horror stories of having no heat, no A/C stuff like that in CA.

Ok. This is going to sound really stupid....

But I saw one that looks EXACTLY like that at Target! Yes. Target.

So look there! I want to say it's about $100 or less.

Omigod. You have GOT to be kidding!? That girl, talking about the designer shoes she has and designer luggage yet you are RENTING!?

I would laugh if something happens and all those "things" are gone.

You don't own anything. At least people who have a home, own something. They get something back if something happened. I lost everything I owned in the CA fires. A few years ago. And so when I hear people brag about all their materialistic crap they have, I laugh so hard. Because that doesn't mean anything!!

You sound like the BIGGEST snob. You'll be on an island wearing some "big ass gay hat." Wow. I can't believe there are people in this world who attempt to sound smart and then use swearing as a form of communication.

All that aside, I think the people who do buy a home are happy that they own something.

I don't think people should judge so much on what people make per year.

I make probably half of what my friends make yet I am the most happy and I don't work in some cubicle.

Would I buy a place in Chicago? You bet.

Best!

AH HIGH POINT NC!!!

If you're furnishing an entire apt. or house I do recommend making the trip down!

My parents went to the (now gone Sad Sad) Rose furniture in High Point, NC and brought their little excel document of what they wanted and needed for their new Condo. How cute!?

Example. Back when it was Marshall Fields' (Ahhhhhh Good old Marshall Fields!!!) My parents saw a Thomas O'Brien couch they wanted. It was $16,000. Yes. A couch.

They went to High Point bought a BUNCH of furniture, bookshelves, couches, tables, loveseat and of course, that SAME THOMAS O'BRIEN COUCH in the fabric of their choice, only they paid $6000.

Now, for me, I don't think I'd ever purchase a couch for that much but it is quite nice and it was over HALF what Marshall Field's charges.

There are books you can buy about going to North Carolina and buying furniture. There is shipping cost, but I believe no tax. So it works out pretty even.

I can't wait to go maybe next year!!

Wow that was funny. I of course scrolled back up to see what I had "missed" in that photo. I laughed out loud for sure. And yes, that's an unfortunate looking phone.

I have the CB2 Trig desk and its great. I love it! It's a great size but mine has a keyboard tray that I leave my other laptop on and slide out.

Very easy to put together!

Well, I know what you feel like as I just moved into my first studio and am moving stuff around etc. But I do think that FLOORS make a difference too. Getting a really bright fun colored rug can change the whole room. I agree everything seems "beige" and muted.

I would also love to see some window treatments, like some great curtains on a curtain rod.

What I liked to do to decide a color scheme is to go to Home Depot or Lowes and grab a bunch of color swatches. Not to paint,----but to pick out colors that I like that I can match pillows and blankets and rugs etc. to. For example I did a light Tiffany Robin Egg blue with Chocolate brown and it worked!

I agree too with Lillacy that I like having my bed be a bed. There are some days you want to just lay and crash on your own bed and sleep. Not pull out the bed, make the futon INTO a bed, then sleep.

I also can't recommend BLIK MORE!!! They are super fun and easy and can really make a room a statement.

Easy and simple and gets your creativity flowing! I bought the vines, and arranged them randomly on the wall. No more white boring walls!
