I visited a home in Chicago's West Rogers Park neighborhood last night with a chicken coop in the back yard. It looked great, and it seems like a great way to be more self sufficient (and the chicks were cute too).

Nice spread. I love Chicago Home Garden's summer homes. I can almost smell the scent of the lake and the pine trees. Thanks for covering.

Thanks for the fantastic house tour. I particularly like Krista and Zac's use of black and orange - my favorite two colors at the moment.

Flor has fantastic products, and I'm continually surprised by their range and price points. Just as importantly, the people behind the scenes at Flor are creative, passionate and friendly. I had the pleasure to attend a Flor catalog photo shoot at a friend's home. While my friends were initially skeptical about how carpet tiles would look in their home, the Flor team's selection made them quick converts.

Incidentally, the above photo was taken at Leo Designs co-founder Stephanie Wirth's home. More photos of Wirth's home can be seen on Strange Closets:

Thanks Regina. It was quite enchanted.

A few comments about the neighbors, anybody who happened upon Dave's gathering would most likely be charmed, as the scene was so unexpected and beautiful (these photos don't do it justice). Also, the gathering wasn't held in a public area exactly. It's just a narrow gangway between two buildings.

Plus the building's two blocks from Wrigley Field, so, to borrow and hack a phrase, "Those neighbors have seen the epitome of tasteless. The epitome of tasteless has left evidence (both biodegradable and non-biodegradable). And that, my friends, is not the epitome of tasteless."

Seriously, Chicago ranked #3 on the most miserable list? While Chicago is dramatic and attracts a certain type, I've never been happier anywhere else. When it's hot, it's blistering; when it rains, it pours. When it's 80, dry and sunny, everybody is outside, drinking and laughing and piling onto the beach. The people are guarded but ultimately open to anybody (President Obama's rise through Chicago politics being one example). The restaurants are incredible, the architecture is breathtakingly beautiful and the friends you'll meet will be the best you'll ever have. The sales tax sucks certainly, but I'll take another couple points on sales tax in return for Chicago's housing prices.

Great post (envy inducing but wonderful). The space is pop-tart pretty and the photography captures the energy perfectly. What a cool kid. Nice.

Great post - I'll have to pick up Readymade. I love these and am a big fan of WPA art generally. In addition to these posters, the WPA produced a number of notable artists. I've written a few of posts about the WPA-period art.

One of my home tour's featured the owner of Michigan's excellent antique shop Ipso Facto. Brandon and Lisa collect are and have both WPA and WPA-inspired pieces:

I tend to prefer vintage anyway, but I do appreciate modern design. For some reason that I can't quite put my finger on, these aren't doing it for me.

My favorite candle in the world is the one that the Paris hotel, Hotel Costes sells. I stayed at the lower-cost sister hotel, Hotel Bourg Tibourg (in the Marais), and the Costes candles were burning constantly. The scent is complex and instantly evokes Paris for me. You can buy it online (google it). Unfortunately, it's about 100 US dollars.

I'd make it a cave, a cozy place to sleep or read with the bed placed in the center of the room. I'd hang floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall velvet drapes with art hanging in front of them. Top it off with a really dramatic chandelier.

Awesome.

I love this look so much. And you can cut up any large piece of art for a similar dramatic effect.

I recently posted a house tour of George's south side bungalow. George is a fantastic Interior Designer and owns the awesome Lakeview boutique, George Lowell. He has a map covering an entire wall in a fairly small bedroom.

What a find! I'm a Chicagoan, and this would be right at home in one of our incredible vintage / urban antiques shops.

Specifically, it has Scout written all over it. All I find in the alley is partially destroyed particle board furniture.
