i'd be down with kicking mine to the curb -- everytime i use it, with the finger guard no less, i slice a piece off my thumb.

never, ever again.

i have a 12" cast iron preseasoned lodge pan - but i am afraid to try fried eggs in it, as i fear it will only cause me to have to reseason it after my husband tries to clean it.

anyone have tips??

Pardon me for going off-topic, but I simply cannot fathom why renters would renovate anything, let alone a kitchen. it's just another checkmark on a list that proves we have a disposable society.

the stalks are my favorite part of the broccoli! my mom used to slice them up to put in salad and my sisters and i would always fight for pieces while she was making it!

i think it's the best part of the broccoli, flavorful, crunchy and totally great with a little sea salt.

I have a batch of their basic recipe in my fridge in tupperware with the lid firmly attached. will something happen to it because the lid is on tight?

oh we usually have some sort of homemade coffee cake & LOTS of coffee while we open presents. this year it will be martha stewart's cardamom streusel coffee cake. yum!

then we move on to a full breakfast of egg sandwiches with pork roll & cheese, and hashbrowns - more coffee! - and mimosas.

that usually holds until dinner!

traditionally, tsoureki is flavored with the unusual spice mahlepi. mahlepi (sometimes commonly spelled mahleb, from turkish) is a finely ground powder, made from the fruit pits of persian sour cherry trees. it is very difficult to find - and can be scored at mediterranean specialty stores or online at penzeys.

i'm not so sure that my greek grandmother would substitute mahlepi with anise - the subtle, citrusy aroma that wafts into my kitchen when baking tsoureki is unbelievable. she might, however, use the zest of an orange instead.
