For a major project, I like bigkoiguy's idea. Sort of like a giant, rustic pocket door. You slide it out and have everything hung on a big door that you need for gardening. For a minor project, leisurely viking has a great idea that will be pretty without too much work.

In 1977, I knew exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up...a psychologist. Why? Because I already knew what my office would look like. Brown desk, orange shag rug, gold upholstered vinyl tulip chairs, heavy wheat-colored textured curtains. Now I know this was probably based on direct rebellion to my cupcake-colored pink and aqua bedroom. Who knew? PS: I am not a psychologist, but I do have my own office. Dream come true! (only with beautiful butter colored walls!)

My favorite thing about our house is the people in it! What's great about that is that if we move...the best part comes along! For me, our home is a cozy backdrop to life...furniture, colors, accessories and layout are all there to complement the life we lead inside (and outside) of it.

Yes, you could frame the mirror with lightweight framing attached with tacky putty. But I agree with others here...concentrate on what you are placing on the mantle. Larger, chunkier pieces to anchor with a cohesive color scheme. Think large candles, vases, bowls or glass jars filled with glass orbs or something that adds to the overall color scheme and interest. Or tailor it to whatever you are interested in, such as beachy items, travel items, whatever.

The swing, pack-n-play, and the activity center (where they sit in and play with the things around them) were all fantastic for both my boys. Lots of onesies, receiving blankets (the thin cotton kind), socks and cloth diapers to use as burp cloths were essential.

We didn't need a bottle warmer, bottle sterilizer, the wipes warmer, the changing table, the baby bjorn or the bouncy chair.

Cozy factor. We aren't small, and in fact just expanded our single family home. Our home is older, and in a great neighborhood with large oak trees. But many friends have, and we could afford, a larger, vaulted ceiling, biggger kitchen newer home. But we are comfortable, have enough space and wouldn't dream of having more. Just more to clean and fill with stuff! Besides, I love changing things around to make the space the best it can be. Even if I had tons of money, I can't ever imagine ever living in anything bigger. 2000 sq ft is HUGE to me.

Why Do You Live Small?

My first suggestion would be to rethink your dining room table. Perhaps purchase a slightly smaller/narrower one, you can reuse your chairs, then you can use the space as intended.
If that is not an option, then make it a library. Move the bookcase across, next to the desk and use pretty boxes to corral clutter. Add an area rug. Place a floor lamp and comfy reading chair in the corner where the small desk is. And, I agree with other posters, say goodbye to the chandelier.

Love the elements in your room! I would hang a long, deep shelf above the TV and sort of treat it like a fireplace mantle. I would add candlesticks, vases, a plant that drapes down over to break up the hard line, and a round object or two to further break it up. You could lean smaller paintings or photos as well. Vary the heights and colors and I think you will love it. It is easy to change things up for holidays as well. It gives you a place to lean a wreath and hang a garlan or some ribbon. Hope this helps!
