I would be very interested in seeing these furnishings in their new home. I love the pieces, especially the organic lines of the barstools, but, the furniture placement is uncomfortable to me. The orange credenza needs to be anchored by something in the middle of the room. It is just too big and boxy to work there. The height, when compared with the low couch, just looks uncomfortable to me. I would love to see their new space though. They have great taste.

I love this tour. The styling of your home is amazing.

I agree that the title was misleading, but I also agree with many of the comments that you have plenty of time to baby proof and then toddler proof your home. Not all babies are alike. So, you may end up having to more or less of it than you might think.

Baby may not be able to see the beautiful mobile right away, but my son loved his white seagulls by the time he was 4 months, and still loves them above his big boy bed at 2. I'm sure your mobile will become a treasured piece as your baby grows up. And, you can enjoy it now!

I, too, would love to see an update a year or two from now. I would imagine that you will have many beautiful and creative ways of incorporating babies gear, toys, etc, into your home

I love what little I can see. I like the easy-going style. It all looks very welcoming. I hate to agree with everyone on the topic of the overall tour, but I too would have loved more open shots to get a better sense of the space.

@Maybe Someday, you might want to actually read the article before you start bashing AT. The writer specifically points out that the post was written as a parody. I am guessing this writer knows not to leave anything up for interpretation. Sadly, too many "readers" are just reading titles and captions before adding their two cents.

The floor tile in the bathroom is gorgeous. I love how beautifully curated their art collection is. Really well done. Also, I can't agree with @She Who Says Go! more. Great couple and tour!

Thanks @MrsHervi for the link. The fabric valance over the window is one of my (many) favorite elements. I also love the paper cranes over the changing pad. This room is so peaceful. What a great transformation!

I love this room. I love how she used the diagonal of the brick in her placement of the art. I love that the art is bright and fun and that it will grow with him through the years. Normally, I am not a huge fan of faux taxidermy, but I know how much my son loves them! Kids/babies love animals so much, so I'm sure that is going to be a hit with this baby.

My crib set came with a bumper pad. I agree with the critics that they can be unsafe, but I left mine on and took a bunch of photos of the nursery before my son was born. It stayed on until the day he started sleeping in his crib. I did, however, put it back on to take more photos after we found a rug for the room. I wanted the photos to be of the overall "design" of the room, not how it looks day to day. We don't know what this mom intends to do, and, honestly, it's really none of our business. I don't think any new mom is unaware of the risks, so blasting it on these forums is a little unnecessary (and yes, judgmental!).

And, @pearmelon, am I supposed to think that the campaign chest is somehow not safe? Really people...

Red Zinger, I was afraid of the same thing. My son is 20 months old and I just gave him chalk for the chalk board wall in his play room for the first time last week. So far, he hasn't strayed off of that one wall. However, until he is older, he doesn't have access to the chalk, markers, paint or crayons with out my getting it for him (IE only supervised). Once he is a bit older, it'll all go in the art cabinet for him to access on his own.

The statement pieces in this room, the orange wall, the red coffee table and those fabulous poufs, are so bright and cheerful. I can imagine this room looking just as great even when the floor is covered with toys and baskets are pulled out. Great job!

I knew that comment was coming. My husband and I painted our home in all shades of gray and white four years ago. Over the last year and a half, I have seen more and more homes in this color pallet. So, I've been waiting for the backlash, and I believe @elise som Interiors has started it. I'm sure others will follow. People tend to want to be ahead of the trend. Problem is, even when you are, it often catches up with you. I personally love the gray and white color pallet and refuse to paint my walls or change my decor every time something I do becomes trendy. I love it in my home and I love it in this home. It is calm and sophisticated and does not create a color cast in the room (my last home was yellow and I hated it for that reason!) Adding color, such as this family has, in accents and art is wonderful. The style of this home is very different than mine, yet I love it and wouldn't change a thing. Everything looks so personal. It is well designed, and yet looks lived in, comfortable and inviting. Perfect!

I have to agree with @dogworld. Overall, this reno is wonderful! I love the use of space as well as the finishes. Adding the soffit above the bed does a lot to turn that little corner into it's own space. The only thing I would change is the shelves to the left of the fireplace. They are really overloaded. I would either make the shelves run from wall to wall in that nook, or I would move as many of those books over to the shelves by the bed as I could to alleviate the load. Apart from that (and that is totally minor), I love this space!

Love the gold ceiling. It is spacious, bright and airy. The design is beautiful. I don't see any reason to believe this room is not kid friendly. I am guessing that the kids also have their own space in this home where they play. Not everyone has toys overrunning their living spaces. I have a separate playroom in my home, and the kids have their own bedrooms. Why should their clutter move into the family/living room too? When toys come down to play during the day, they go back up at night. And, @mosaicwench, if your kids are using candlesticks as swords after being told not to ONCE, then, wow, maybe you do need to have everything padded down. But, most people who have made it through the toddler stage can have things on the floor and coffee table without fear of it being used as a weapon. I think it is a beautiful, usable space!

Before & After: An Inviting, Kid-Friendly Living Room Update The Sweeten

Love this home! What a find. The architecture is so great and really seems to highlight, both the views and your great vintage furniture. It is so rare to find an MCM era home that needs so little work. Would love to see an update when you get to the bathroom floors. I'll definitely be peeking in on your blog for that. I agree that the original wood tones would have been awesome throughout the home, but the white really looks fantastic and is probably cheerier to live in. I can just imagine how beautiful the living room must look at sunset.

Liz, You have such an amazing eye for great pieces. There are so many amazing pieces in your home.

My only suggestion for this home is regarding furniture placement in the family room. A common mistake people make with large spaces is placing all of the furniture against the walls. This leaves the room looking empty and a little cold, and isn't as functional as it could be. I would move the sofa, coffee table and rug to the center of the room, in front of the fireplace, with the tv and console directly across from the fireplace. I would then place the orange chair and ottoman next to the console (once you move the rug over, you might not really need to move it that much to accomplish this). I would place the rocker directly across from the sofa, closer to the fireplace but facing the sofa. I would move the bench that is currently on the wall next to the couch over to where the couch is now in front of the windows, and would replace it with the glass front cabinet that is next to your bookcases. This arrangement would allow you to comfortably enjoy both the fireplace and tv from the couch, and would create a really nice conversation area. It would really go a long way to make the space look more cozy.

Thank you so much for sharing your home. It's such an amazing space and your furnishing and art are so unique and beautiful! I really loved this tour!

We don't have an Ikea by us, so I didn't recognize the photo canvas's as Ikea products. Regardless of where they are from, I love them! You might, as years go by, find some original work or limited prints to replace some of them, just to have something that is more unique, but I would definitely keep to the same style and overall feeling if you do. They are great statement pieces. I personally would keep the one over your bed forever, even if a million other people own it too, as it is just such an amazing photo.

I love the direction your apartment is going and can't believe that you have only been there for 3 months! Wonderful job.
