I agree with the other commenters, making your own kimchi is the way to go. Every household has different tastes, so you can flavor the kimchi in exactly the way that's suited for your own family. Store kimchi has so many preservatives and tons of MSG, and I've never had store-bought kimchi that was anywhere near as good as homemade.

Actually, one of my husband's coworkers is a white American who LOVES kimchi, but he hadn't had it for almost a decade. So my husband buys him a jar of cabbage kimchi and a jar of radish kimchi. The coworker smashed through both jars, and he ended up in the hospital for 2 months with MSG poisoning, his whole body swelled up! So warning to those who aren't used to MSG in their diets...

Previous posters have already voiced my thoughts. If you really feel that strongly against this baby shower, than decline the invitation. It's their baby, their family, their parenting choices... why do you have so many issues with them? If you do choose to go, then get them a gift card.

I personally see no issue with celebrating any subsequent children, why should only the firstborn get a party?!

Before I would've said that registries were tacky... but I ended up making one for my daughter's 1st birthday party. :P We invited 150 people, so it was more like a wedding reception. After the 20th person asked me for registry information, I finally gave in and made one.

So... I guess I'd say that the appropriateness of a registry for a child depends on the situation... lol.

We've got Malm dressers EVERYWHERE, gah, and my 12 month old just got into this phase. *pulls out what's left of hair* She loves opening every drawer, pulling out the contents of every drawer, and then slamming every drawer shut. Google searches resulted in a lot of advice to fill the drawers with something I wouldn't mind be littered and could be thrown back in any which way, like toys... but that didn't alleviate my fears of her tiny fingers getting smooshed!

So I bought Rationell drawer latches. They're the same as the Patrull ones, but an older version, so they were cheaper. It works for the IKEA dressers, since they're flush inside.

I've always HATED cards, any cards from birthdays to holidays to thank yous! It's not particularly exciting for me to receive them, maybe heartwarming for a few minutes, and then they all end up in an overflowing box... which I empty and trash every couple years. A few have long personal messages, but most of them are so generic that it doesn't seem worth all the effort and money.

But DH grew up in a family that LOVES cards. Cards for anything under the sun. MIL especially is addicted to those Hallmark e-cards. So I'm having to send out Christmas cards this year, bah.

I know I sound so ungrateful and very scrooge-ish, but they've never held any special meaning for me and seem so wasteful in my case! I wish people would just call or e-mail, save your stamps and a hand cramp! :P
