I am fairly viligant about washing (quickly) the cutting board after cutting certain colorful things like strawberries.

We bought in 2006 too, and are in the same situation. I also feel like a chump and it does make me feel better to know I'm not alone.

One thing we're doing to try to come to peace with the situation (our house has issues.... it's not just that we're upset it's lost value) is do things we'd never do to a house that we intended to sell soon --- like put in a swingset, paint the walls vibrant colors, etc.

It doesn't bother me at all. You don't have to give them anything that's not easily accessible in order to sign up. I believe the Kroger card application just asked for name and address, maybe phone number. I like getting coupons for stuff we buy (like Kashi, Morningstar Farms) that you rarely see coupons for in the newspaper.

Lefse = YUMMMMM!!! Our relatives in Westby, Wisconsin send us some every year for Christmas lunch. I just like it warm with butter, rolled up.

Aww Nannypoo that is sad... definitely a good incentive to share.

I always share recipes. One friend gave me her family's secret recipe for a corn casserole and told me to just make sure her parents never found out she gave it to me. I've been asked for it a few times and given it, but not to anyone who knows her parents :)

(we have an old silver baby spoon in ours so no one has to put their fingers in there, though it still happens. NBD)

I've had an Emile Henry salt pig next to my stove for years (full of coarse kosher salt) and wouldn't do without it now

I bought my house in 2006, when it was extremely easy to get a loan. Now the house has very serious problems and I can't afford to move because of the market and how much it would cost to fix the problems first. It's soured me on home ownership. I feel like it's a money pit. Interestingly, my husband, whose name is not on the mortgage or house, is strongly against ever renting again. I think it's that he likes that we can really "do our own thing" with our house and property.

I should mention that both of us were so much happier in our arrangement than we had been with same-sex roommates, for whatever reason.

my law school roomate, who was of the opposite sex and about 4 or 5 years older than me (it was his second career). we met through a message board the school set up for that purpose, then met in person one time. neither of us were complete slobs or neat freaks, which I agree is important. we shared a bathroom with almost zero counter space and it wasn't a big deal.
we were pretty different - I was waaaay more into partying than he was - but we established at that first meeting that we were both politically active and aligned in that respect, and that's most of the reason I felt good about moving in together. it did work out nicely, because we ended up making many of the same friends, and the group that congregated at our house was acceptable to either of us.

cure room, love the bright blue. and I sympathize... my daughter was born 6 days past her due date so I know how you're feeling (emotionally). he'll be here soon!

It usually depends on the guest. I'll make something new if a family member or close friend is coming over (like last night I made up a BBQ chicken pizza recipe and made a Martha Stewart corn-pesto pizza for the first time - both were SO good). I wouldn't do it for a party or less close friends, though. Close friends will be understanding if it's awful and we need to just order out :)

I also consider the jar part of the gift, when I'm giving or getting. I would be pretty shocked to find out someone was miffed at me for that!

Personally, I shoo my cats off the table, but I'm not grossed out by eating on someone's clean-looking table where I know a cat has been. It's not like I'm eating directly off the table's surface.

my bedroom is this color and it just doesn't work in our house. it's too cool at night with the lights on, even though it was one of the warmest samples we tried.
