I would ask the building first if you can do this. All that wood and hardware is going to put a lot of weight on the terrace and it might be more than the building deems "safe"

While I really like the kitchen, and don't even mind the green, I think that after I would become less and less enamored with it.

So I'm guessing this rules out walking to the fridge in your underwear.

Nice beds... now I just have to convince the dog to sleep there and not in our bed!

Not only is it cool, but it would be a snap to duplicate. The one who did all the hard work would simply have to say what color chips are where and viola!

Vern hated both rooms because neither had multiple black and white pictures of zoomed in details of inanimate objects.

The thing that irks me about this show it that it is not formatted to create good design, it is formatted to create drama. This season, they addressed the budgeting issues that the previous seasons lacked, but they still have the time issue, which I feel is more critical. If you think a room is generic, it's because it probably is, because they didn't have time to really design a space. They are too busy trying to finish the space rather than design something unique. Give them 4 days to work on it and you might see some amazing work- 2 days is just a joke.

Leatherman. Great tool that while it may be a jack of all trades, it packs a lot of punch in one handy package.

I think the deck looks great and everything, but man, I am programmed to think that a yard, especially one with kids has to have grass in it.

I shudder to think at what the prices of these homes will be. Communities like this will continue to be a gimmick so long as developers think that they are making a difference and are really going to change people's minds by offering a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom eco house for $600k while a non-eco house in the same area would go for $3-400k.

This whole trend is only going to catch on when an architect and builder REALLY sharpen their pencils and offer a community with green homes at a price point comparable to non-green homes. Throw in a ball field, public garden and a basic convenience/ice cream shop so you can WALK out to get eggs and milk. Couldn't agree with everyone more on that point.

People are shocked when we tell them that the first thing we did to our new place was tackle the hallway. It was a main artery travelling through the house and provided a dreadful experience. Dark and dank, we could feel the energy getting sucked out of us as we walked down it.

Some semi-gloss white paint (to bounce the light), black and white pictures of our travels, a sofa table and a pair of lamps to go with the chandelier and it is now a pleasure to walk through.

Eh, paint the walls, it's not that big of a deal.

Don't you DARE touch that wood though.

While the end product looks amazing- I envision a long and frustrating road getting to this point.

Man, an apartment with a black, white and grey color scheme, I would love to see a pair of red chairs in that setting. Maybe it's me, but black, white and red is one of the sharpest color schemes out there.

As for places to look, ebay and overstock would be my two recommended starting points.

This may be a completely random question, but is that a Jessica Charles setee? It looks familiar to a piece I was eyeing a year or so ago.

An amazing backyard! Although, I don't think I have ever heard someone so fondly describe raccoons in their backyard.

I really like the Fallingwater model. The only thing is that I wish they diversified the colors a little bit- the model makes it look as though the house and surroundings are the perfect shade of beige when that is FAR from the case.

I am with John.

For the price that I am sure they are asking, I would expect to see dovetail joints, which, unless I have missed one, is the highest quality joint.

Hmmm, crazy lifestyle huh?

I'd buy a homebase in a quaint college town with a scenic downtown, or maybe 15 miles away in a little more rural of a setting.

Then I'd take a couple of years and drive around the world in a Unicat- the only RV that could handle a trek like that. Even after the trip I'd keep it because it's just too cool.

Then I'd look to purchase a huge yacht to just take me wherever I want to go.

I would just change the locks to your condo. Not just because of the boyfriend, but because of the boyfriend, the contractors, the lost keys and the fact that you didn't have them changed when you bought the place, it really makes sense to change them.

You have a single lock to replace (assumption) so either you could do it or have a locksmith do it for $150.

My rule of thumb is whenever I buy a place, one of the first things I do is change the locks. It gives me peace of mind and a sense that the place is "mine" because I have the only keys that can get in.
