Ok I have this covered! I've only lived in an apartment with my two cats and have tried multiple brands, all of which have their pros and cons.

1. We started with the typical Grocery Store brand (e.g. basic clay litters), specifically for "multi-cat". I would recommend against these: they don't hide odour well and they can't be flushed.

2. Upon recommendation, we moved to World's Best for a couple of years (http://www.worldsbestcatlitter.com/). I was IN LOVE with the fact that you could flush it. We just had a little tupperware bottom in our litter box hider (repurposed upper kitchen cabinet) and scooped and transferred to the toilet. It was great no having to store used litter for disposal downstairs (no garbage shute). However, we eventually switched because we found that after a short period of time (~3-5 days), it became very powdery and tracked through the apartment. Your cats may be different (less aggressive in there) so this might not be a problem for others.

2.5 (we also tried Feline Fresh (http://www.petvalu.com/in-our-store/products/cat/litter/non-clay-litter/feline-fresh-clumping-pine-cat-litter) but that was even worse for dust and tracking)

3. Because of dust tracking, we switched to a crystal litter. We find it masks the smell excellently (better than all previous litters) and does not track. However, since it can't be flushed, we bought one of those litter locker things to store the used litter until garbage day (this happens every 2 weeks where we are). It's been a good solution thus far.

I hope this helps.

What we've learned is that there is no one miracle solution. They all have pros and negatives. I loved World's Best and would prefer the convenience of flushing, but the dust eventually knocked me over the edge. I would start with that, though, and see how it works with your cat(s).

IN LOVE WITH THIS!

Just curious to know what it looks like from the other side (when closed)? Also, do you have any hardware on the other side for opening/closing? I imagine that could get complicated due to how flush the door is to the wall when it is opened..

I'm so glad you posted this for many reasons but the main one is that we have a similar furniture arrangement in our living room, and have wanted to add a floor lamp similar to the Acro Floor Lamp but have been wondering... HOW do you hide the cord? Unfortunately we can't see in this photo...
