I have one (in black) and I can vouch for its cooling power. Vornado's site explains the difference between a circulator and a fan (basically a fan has blades pitched for a wide and short air pattern to blow on your body, and air circulators are pitched for a long narrow cone. You point the ac at a wall across the room and it cools the whole room, not just the body of the person in front).

I love it as it really cools my place down, and even better, in the winter, I have pointed at my radiator to warm the place up! (when I lived somewhere with forced air heating, I warmed the place up by pointing it at the ceiling to force the warm air that rose to circulate back down the walls to me)

Sorry, Lady J, I just realized that what I wrote could be taken as a stab. It isn't meant to be one, I apologize.

This site is about style, and everyone has their own, including of how to read and appreciate art, and I think it is very easy for this to be a vibrant community without ruining people's experience, as there are tonnes of metaphors that aren't close to the line, that would help us talk about bedbugs.

Speaking of which, in addition to Bedbugs, isn't it concerning that you are at the mercy of your neighbor's cleanliness? Where did they come through? The vents? Is there something that we can seal to keep it from happening?

I think it matters less if it is a spoiler than if it is interpreted as one. If I saw "nobody died" and thought that was about the book, and then stopped reading so as to avoid further (perceived) spoilage, I would be crushed, whether it ends up being true or not.

So whether it is one or isn't, can we just try to be nice and not talk about the ends of books/movies?

The "grown-up" thing to do, I think, is to be considerate if it costs us nothing to do so, and whether we understand others' tastes and proclivities towards books, be nice about them.

Love this idea, can you make it a regular column? I'd love to see more of what you recommend for people!

IF you guys want some more info, this was covered as a question on the NYC site a long ways back, and some people had experience with it:

The penguin collections are stellar collections of work, and if your client reads even one, it will be worth it :)

I highly recommend going that route.

Great pictures! Really give a good feeling of the space!

House Tour: Taylor and Mandy's Eclectic Loft

I have to say that the house tour suffers from the same tendency as recent Dwell magazines: arty close-ups. I read this blog because I am interested in the whole space, and individual pieces are only interesting to in the context of how they fit into the whole.

Form the toronto tour there are only a few pics that give a feeling of what whole rooms look like, and none of them connect the pics in a way that lets me know how the rooms are related to one another. I would love a view from the kitchen into the living room to see a different angle, or from wherever these people sit into the kitchen as if we were guests talking to a host. I want to feel how the whole place is assembled.

While some of their art pieces are interesting, my interest in them is purely secondary to how they fit with the apartment. This arises out of a tendency to try and make interesting images, like the one of the glass bottles. While this is a lovely photo, and an interesting vignette, I have no idea where it fits in the apartment.

In general, I would beseech one thing of those offering home tours, whether established on the site on trying out. Notice what the shots that get top billing (i.e. are selected to represent the whole series) look like. They are of the whole apartment. Please make more of the photos look like that!

I think the applications are great, and I look forward to seeing more! Specifically more apartments! I love apartments! :)

Hey Johnny, do these things have nicer finishes than IKEA melamine coated designs?

I'd love to see a picture. If you can send one to AT have them post it with this listing I think everyone would appreciate it!

To the best of my knowledge the previous post is incorrect. Restoration Hardware is not, and was never owned by Pottery Barn. Pottery Barn is owned by Williams Sonoma, Restoration Hardware is independent. This explains why they released Brocade, to compete with West Elm.

Where did you get the desk custom made? I'd love to see pics of it opened up to see how the TV and workspace live together!

how do you use the computer (whose monitor is the tv)? Is there a chair? Do you bring a wireless keyboard in that is stored in another room?
