Man, I had the same experience! The more I stood at work (at my IT desk job), the more tired I was by the time I got home. I usually workout during evenings, and found myself sapped, especially the legs.

I think that if you are pretty fit, then you have to be careful with the sit/stand concept. I found that short walks as a "break" every 45 or 90 minutes is vital... keeps things flowing and balanced. But sit/stand really doesn't work for me. It was a bit surprising to realize it!

Hi Taryn, you are right -- sorry about that! Thanks for the correction.

My favorite is Destroy Today Calendar (for Mac and Windows). It's a modern, minimal horizontal scroll clock:

It's free. Check out the dev's blog if you're interested, too.

#5 reminds me of the BDI Marina TV stand (one of my favorites):

Hi Jen. I searched for 2 years to find my modern TV stand, same budget & criteria. I ended up buying from Dania Furniture -- also known as "Scandanavian Designs" in some parts of the country. Both have websites of the same name. Great quality, made in either Italy/Romania/China. Exactly fits your budget.

I would also suggest Overstock.com. They have great TV stands if you like the low, modern look. Some units are heavy, and require assembly (can take a whole Saturday!), so be warned.

Finally, I also like BDI products. They have a couple of lines of TV stands (Avion, Marina) that are modern, functional, and bold. You can find them on eBay, CL, etc.

I hope that helps!

You sound excited by the possibilities of a big surface. I vote for big, big, big. (I have a 70" desk and love it.)

You can always have another table do double-duty. You lose some dedicated secondary space with this option, but you gain the large desk, which is fun. Feels like a command center. Just keep it clean and tidy - have storage handy for files, supplies, etc.

@Kaete - I'm with you, speed is critical. I'd call that "comfort and reliability" of an app. Things and Omnifocus are $$$, but will ultimately pay off if you enjoy using them. Remember, you'll be using this app a LOT.

For Mac, I recommend "The Hit List" It's a Mac only application (not available iPod/iPhone/iPad yet! Very frustrating.). It has a small but happy following and is perfect for me. Speedy, project-oriented, keyboard-friendly (I don't need to use the mouse!), has a quick-entry window (via keyboard shortcut), etc... I'm suffering for a mobile version, but until then it's a great application.

Forgot to add: you could wedge some sound-insulating foam between the amp and bookcase to reduce any rattling. IKEA wood is often just laminate, and pretty lightweight. Make sure the amp has some air circulation for cooling (e.g. tube amps)... the casters will help roll it away from the wall.

This idea is awesome and useful. I have a sweet 1x12 tube guitar amp in my 1BR, and this idea keeps it "showcased" -- but I can finally use the top surface. I'm glad to see this post.

@klin, I think you'd never use a nice amp in a bookcase like this -- way too much rattling & attenuation. I would take it out and then plug it in. Otherwise I'm pretty sure I'd turn the bookcase into splinters!

@RocketScientist - I'm with you! I hope the author feels better.

I'm grateful you shared your story/post with us. I always thought this was a very easy 'procedure', and I had no idea that this could be a side-effect. I already have sensitive teeth (orthodontics), so I don't think I'll make it through this!

I ue 1Password (Mac, Windows, iOS, Android) or LastPass (free, multi-platform compatible). A lot better than accidentally donating a book with your password in it!

Some software will create "pronounceable" passwords, by the way.

I always use glass storage. I've used two brands: for fridge/freezer, I use Frigoverre by Bormioli Rocco (made in Italy). The rectangular shaped ones stack & sort well. For packing a leakproof lunch, I use Glasslock (USA) containers. They have silicone rubber seals and the lids have plastic locking wings - 100% spillproof!

My dry storage is Bodum Yohki -- love those things!
