I think a good mattress protector is very important. We have used the same crib mattress for both boys because we bought a good quality organic mattress protector. Nothing gets through that thing and the mattress looks good as new!

I've always LOVED this look, ever since I saw it at a friend's house in Europe. They had a full wall of cabinets, floor to ceiling so there was no break in the middle for a counter (there was however a built in coffee machine, which was FAB, and wall oven). Then they had a huge island with the sink and stovetop. It was gorgeous and not so "kitchen-y". I especially love this look either like that or with windows above the counter. The kitchens pictured with all the subway tile are nice I guess, but I was surprised there weren't any shown with panoramic or even large picture windows above the counter. That is GORGEOUS!

I think I saw the 2nd kitchen on House Hunters International, the buyers paid well over a million $$$ for that condo but oh man the kitchen is utterly gorgeous! They were a bit concerned with the lack of size/counterspace, but went with it anyway.

We have the first one from room & board, with a full bed underneath... it is on casters so it rolls out for sleeping and tucks away during the day. The kids LOVE it, and I love that it's not too high and we don't have to worry about them playing on the stairs.
It was expensive but we thought it was worth the investment because we can separate them and have a high twin and a separate full bed. Plus they are attractive and much more stable (one piece of solid steel) than the Ikea loft.

The first one is lovely but terribly over-staged... a beautiful bouquet on the bottom shelf? This is not someone's home, this is a page in a magazine.

Yes I have the same question as above... we have the little backslash "lip" that matches the countertop that I would love to remove and add a tile backsplash but not exactly sure how, or if it would leave an unsightly mark on the back end of the counter?
Thanks!

Yes the sofa in the first pic IS amazing! It looks like one my sister got at a store in LA years ago. Domicile maybe?

We paid $10K 5 years ago to replace 9 windows in our city condo (Chicago). We went with Renewal by Anderson and we were happy with them.
We moved into a home built in 1940 with 10 original windows (with storms). We had estimates last month ranging from $8-$12K to replace them. I would definitely be interested in restoring them rather than replacing them, but have no idea where to start looking for reputable companies to do so. (Besides google). Does anyone have any recommendations?

I have to do this for my parents one of these days... there is always a groupon or some flash sale for vhs-dvd conversion.

What do I do with all my videos on my mac? I have a bunch from my phone and flip video camera that are on my computer but I would like to have hard copies of. I guess I could just burn to dvd but my puter doesn't have a dvd drive...

Not sure if West Elm is still having their sale but we bought the Elton Settee (in green velvet!) last week for $439. They also have another on win royal blue velvet that is lovely too for the same price.

Ha I agree. I love the barbell but $89 is a liiiiitle steep! I just bought a great leather one personalized with my husband's initials for like $7 on sale on etsy. It's gorgeous and looks like it cost 5 times what I paid. Here it is: https://www.etsy.com/listing/57776273/personalized-rugged-brown-leather?ref=shop_home_active
