A question about the landscape with building painting - to the left of the couch - is that a Jean Jack painting? If not, what can you tell me about it? Maxwell & Ursula's Light Rental Reno: The End is... in Sight Renovation Diary |

My mum, from whom I and my sisters derived our love for decorating, would let us throw handfuls of tinsel (this being back in the 50s) on the tree. She tried gently to instruct us to put it on piece by single piece, but c'mon, really! After we went to bed, she would painstakingly remove the clumps and array the shiny tinsel strands one-by-one on each branch. It was absolutely fairy-tale like, and we thought we were decorating geniuses! Compromising Your Style: Letting Kids Help Decorate for Holidays |

I once had a very budget conscious but quite old rental. The bathroom was tiny, with cheap paneling half way up from the baseboard. I primed and painted the paneling white. It looked kind of like white wainscoting. Then I purchased inexpensive white trim to top off the formerly raw paneling. It made a tremendous difference - looking more like beach cottage bath than the formerly sad rental bath. Fast Fixes: Small, Landlord Friendly Upgrades For the Bathroom Renters Solutions |

Yes yes yes, Davina Porter is AMAZING. She has spoiled me for many other narrators. If they're not at least partially as good as she, I'll read the book thanks. The Best Narrated Audio Books |

My birthday is the 20th of December, AND I am a twin. Luckily, my parents were so looking forward to girls after having 2 boys and several miscarriages, that they made it a point to celebrate our birthday separate from Christmas. In fact, for many years, first there was our birthday, and that seemed to start off the Christmas holidays. Not a bad thing. Real Life at Home: Jennifer's Birthday Party Disaster |

For me it's mirrors. I have several that were in my childhood home. None of them are my style, but there's something about knowing that my dad (gone almost 50 years now) looked in the hallway mirror every Sunday morning and adjusted his fedora before going to Mass. A little creepy maybe, but I wouldn't give it up for anything. In the Family: The Value of Antique & Heirloom Furniture |

I like the idea in theory, and in appearance. However, safety issues loom, like securing the bookshelves either to the ceiling or floor so they don't topple over (particularly if children are present). Use Floor-to-Ceiling Bookcases to Divide Your Space Dezeen |

Another idea, and particularly appreciated by totally non-tech grandparents. Write down a memory of time spent with them when you were young, something you learned from them, why and when you remember it, what difference it made in your life. If you have a picture to add, more the better. Print out and send snail mail. I've seen grandparents and parents cry to know they have made a positive difference in someone's life.
