The back of my pantry is my favorite place to display art too. I love that it's usually seasonal- so I try to swap it out monthly (and photograph the display each month as a keepsake).

Here's what ours looks like: http://cleansmartsimple.blogspot.com/2012/02/artwork-displays.html

My daughter's room is very pink, and very princessy, and I don't think that it in any way shapes who she is or what she is going to grow up to be. When she outgrows the "phase" or whatever, she's left with a room that still has lots of character and color- just minus the dolls. I see no problem with indulging a child in a collection- whether it be something gender neutral and empowering, or "frivilous" like princesses. I love that her room is filled with what she loves, and so does she. Here's her room:

We also use hooks and a bench. Works great for now in a room that lacks any other option! Here's what our space looks like:

I'm 100% in favor of the boxes. And the way that I keep the space kid friendly while maintaining adult sanity is to store the sharp or super messy stuff on higher shelves :)
I found a ton of great storage boxes in the Christmas Clearance stuff...now I know to keep my eyes peeled after holidays! Here's how I used boxes in

That blue color is my favorite! (Images 3 and 4).
I was inspired to tackle my own space by some images similar to these. My finished product is not a "magazine ready" space, but I love to look at it, and it didn't cost much more than a small can of paint.

Amazing. Especially the 3rd! As I try to figure out where exactly to put my ideal workspace, I've settled for at least creating one for my kids and their crazy crafting projects. When they clean up their stuff, it doubles pretty nicely as a buffet table for entertaining, and triples as a place to sit with the laptop if the dining room table is otherwise occupied.

I saw that melted crayon art (3rd picture), on Pinterest and was just dying to try it- but I decided to put my own twist on it...and it turned out perfectly for the space that I had in mind. Check it out and the tutorial here:

Great suggestions. I am kind of a freak about organizing my kids toys- here are a few of my specifics for how I figure out what to put where: http://cleansmartsimple.blogspot.com/2011/09/toy-management-revisited.html

I find that painter's tape is the best because it peels off easily with no residue. Add some wooden or duplo blocks to build a city near your roads, and you have hours of entertainment!

I've been looking for a way to squeeze in an office space into a corner of a room that isn't really an office...and I think this just might work. Thanks!

I absolutely love how the hanging stuff was moved UP and the shelves were used down low. Makes so much more sense that way! Now you've got me thinking about my hall closet...

Have you ever used the website Olioboard?
It's GREAT for looking for things in certain color combinations because you can search by color. I actually started working on a room using those exact colors:
http://olioboard.com/boards/18318-kids-room

I think the key is just to find some pops of pink, like a piece of furniture or a lamp/light fixture. And then don't be afraid to add in another pattern that incorporates all 3 colors. Use it for pillows, drapes, or create your own artwork by framing squares of the fabric.

I use them all over my house for storing things like hats/gloves/mittens
or board games that are missing boxes.
If you are into crafting and scrapbooking, they are great for storing paper, pictures, stickers, etc. I also use bags in the laundry room for holding piles of rags or socks w/o mates.

Here a few blog entries showing how I use mine around my house if you want to see pictures:

I love this! I did a little etsy searching awhile back to see what other "adult" alternatives there were to the dorm door dry erase board and found a few others that are cute too:
