Questions: How high is the window sill? Can you put a seat, sofa under it? If so, slide your console down the wall closer to the windows (move the little square piece out of the corner) and push your sofa back almost to where the question mark on your plan appears. Then try the chairs at opposite ends of the sofa, facing each other, one being under the windows. That would give you a more open seating area that you could circulate around. Looks like you'd even have room for a small table or something in the area between the storage space and courtyard railing. How To Arrange Many-Doored Room? Good Questions |

I didn't mean to pick on these people. Of course, they should do whatever they think is appropriate for them. Elaborate kid parties have been a sore subject for me since my daughter first started getting invites to them (she's now 12). Since I had the opportunity to comment, I decided to make a general statement about how things have gotten out of hand and maybe simple is better for children. The children themselves get bored at these things and even start to criticize each others parties as the get older. It becomes a competition among parents to outdo each other year after year. My daughter's very favorite parties that she still talks about were an old fashioned bowling party for 8 and a backyard barbecue with a sprinkler and slip'n'slide. I'm an illustrator and designer, so I like to put my stamp on things as well, when I plan a party...just keep it in perspective and make the kids the priority, not the parents. Now I just have to make it through the future Sweet 16's! Best Kids Parties: Sock Monkeys My Party |

No offense, but what's up with all these elaborate and no doubt, expensive, toddler and kid parties? I hate this trend and it keeps getting more insane. It's not about the kids, its about the parents. Whatever happened to pin -the-tail on the donkey in the basement w/ a few balloons and cake? Best Kids Parties: Sock Monkeys My Party |

Lovely color palette and sense of scale. The rooms are not gigantic, but they are so airy and elegant. McMansion dwellers should take notes. The Original Budget Makeover: Jackie Kennedy's White House |

@JasmineIsDomestic, aside from being far more energy and water efficient than they used to be, most new dishwashers actually have a "sanitize" cycle and can prevent the spread of sickness throughout the household...unlike hand washing. Small Dishwasher Options for Small Kitchens |

Have to say that although I'm a NY'er, I'm digging the California house tours so much more than the NY ones lately. They seem to be more about personal style and comfort and less about what is the latest trend or material that will impress. The CA homes we've been seeing lately are not self-conscious and contrived like the NY ones. Sorry, I know its a generalization, but NY hipsters are a dime a dozen here and all their apartments are starting to look alike to me. Alison's Modern Rustic Mar Vista Home House Tour |

A bit sparse and college dormy for my taste, but maybe it's in progress and not finished? I agree with a previous poster...love the Eameses, but the chairs and much other mid century furnishing is becoming hackneyed on these blogs. Just because you throw some mid-century flea market finds in a room doesn't make it good design. Natalie & Bart's Clean and Simple Apartment House Tour |
