this is sad... and frustrating - my subscription ended this month and yet i still got tons of notices encouraging me to renew, and i did - ugh

and i also got that offer from elle decor! except it was for $7, not $5 - i threw it out, but now i wish i hadn't...

the black and white art/theme sounds like the best idea... you can "hang" art on the tile too by using these:

just stick them on the tile where you want the art and then on the back of the frame... they come off really easily too, so it's a great option.

starching fabric to the wall is an idea i have always wanted to try - but im a bit concerned with the clean up after taking it down...

anyone have any experience with this? how bad is the wall after? how intense will that scrubbing be???

i had a cardboard 3 drawer thing(?) similar to this way back when i was in HS... i think it came from the dollar store or maybe kmart - it actually held up very well, but all i used it for was socks and the like

this stuff looks way better though, not from the dollar store :)

I had this in an old apartment and it was great! You can't really see it in this picture, but the metal dips down and comes back up into the shelf, so that there is a little lip there that can hold mail too.

Its made by a company called three by three seattle and there is a huge variety of other products (as well as this one, in red) at this store:

JV: the blue surface isn't magnetic itself, but its metal, so you can use magnets to hold stuff on the organizer - so your cellphone should be ok on it - cells phones are safe from magnets anyhow - the problem is the other way around - im pretty sure keeping something - like a bank/subway card - with a magnetic strip can demagnetize the card... ive killed both metro and subway cards by keeping them in my pocket with my cell.

I think that anyone who is in a financial position where they are able to debate to morality of what food you buy and where you buy it from should maybe just be grateful and keep the judgement of others at bay -

trust me, minimum wage earners, single parents, and the like do not have the luxury of having a "conscience" about stuff like this - walmart has its place, and helps a lot of struggling families to get by

seriously, just be happy you have the luxury of worrying about stuff like this

i used to live in south florida - and the wall to wall tile, in EVERY room, is quite common - it may seem odd, but the summers are unbearably HOT and the tiles can do a lot to help keep things cooler...

my mother has them now too - and the one time i dared to visit in the summer i found lying on the cold tiles after coming from outside (HOT! HUMID!) was amazing...

during my hours of online window shopping, ive come across colorful pans like this a few times - my favorite are from the same store and are pretty inexpensive...

super bright pans: http://bialettishop.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=C&Product_Code=CoFrPa

i think both groups are cute, but i love the vibrant colors of the 2nd group!! definitely for hanging outside the cupboard!

i agree with *wannabe minimalist*

as a fellow grad student (although, science not art :) i know how difficult it can be to tastefully decorate an apartment on a budget thats often so small that even ikea can be too expensive!! (also, not having a car can make taking advantage of craigslist difficult too ... sigh, personal gripes here!)

i think everyone should keep in mind that a lot of people have budgets and resources that are almost non-existant... esp in grad school!

and although better furniture is an investment - if you can only afford to spare $30 , then you don't have much of a choice -

i think that this apartment is really adorable and i love all the artwork - and its even more impressive considering the above... imagine what could be done if there was actually some $$ especially considering what a great eye she obviously has - love it!

good design is for everyone and **EVERY** budget!!
