start simple by making sure your scratching post is sisal; cats much prefer those over the carpet ones.

I live only a few blocks away, but I'd love to stay-cation here! A great example of how original art makes a home truly unique. I also particularly love your bedspreads. Amazing work, see you round the hood, maybe enjoying a kenZinger? ;)

Thank you!! So nice to see our home posted again. To those of you who had questions:

The vanity is made from reclaimed wood that we found in the property pre-renovation; its just two planks sitting on top of IKEA trestle legs. Easy!

The painting is by moi, so thank you to those who have expressed interest! All of my work is for sale, even the pieces that look great above my bed. Just email me if you are really interested. More work can be found at my website, soon to be updated: www.erinmurray.org.

Thanks again!

I love your place and I REALLY love your blog--its everything I would post myself about Philly if I had the discipline for blogging. Bookmarked!

Homeowner here. Yup, the legs are from IKEA. The top is two old beams we found in our building, just sitting on top. You can likely find old timbers from salvage shops. For instance, we purchased old joists from a salvage place called Provenance (www.phillyprovenance.com) in Philadelphia to use for our living room shelves.

Thanks again everyone for the great feedback!

The trestle legs for the vanity table are from *gasp* IKEA. :)

The DIY shelves are made from reclaimed joists from an old church that we picked up at a local salvage shop.

@swedishchef: Yes, it is a small bathroom behind a part of that frosted glass. We had the same idea: bring light to a small dark space while adding architectural interest for not a lot of money. Very pleased with the results!

@perfidia: This is unlike me but I totally cannot remember the provenance of that rug. Must've been a thrift or antique store. However, I highly recommend a place called Material Culture (materialculture.com) if you are local to Phila.

@attygreen13: email me! I'd love to exchange doggie photos. It's me@erinmurray.org. Regarding the plywood floors: I would never recommend putting plywood over a perfectly good wood floor. Plywood is not ideal, but is great on a tight budget in a new construction situation. If I were you, I'd just paint your existing floor with the epoxy paint. Voila!

Oh you wonderful people, thank you for all the nice comments and feedback.

Re: the futon cover, its from Tonic Living, a company I found via an AT search.

Re: the bare-ish walls. I totally agree, and plan to fill them with wonderful art, slowly.

Re: the shallow desk. It's not really shallow, its about 2 feet deep actually. Funny camera angle I guess. Uh, good looking out though!

Re: the epoxy painted floors. Yes, we just laid down 3/8 AC plywood over our subfloor and painted them with Benjamin Moore's Super Spec epoxy paint in linen white, after priming of course. It's not perfect, we do have some cracking on some of the seams, but overall we are very happy with the result (considering the price!) I would suggest screwing the plywood down rather than nailing/stapling and gluing. Putty the screw holes and pay special attention to keeping your seams level.

Re: the penny tile disaster. It wasn't the penny tiles that ruined us, it was the cheap grout. Buy the good stuff and remember to mix your bags together for even coloration.

Thank you all again for the kudos, it really means a lot to us. Thanks especially to Anna (we LOVE door sixteen!)

Well we are pretty tall but definitely require a step stool to get to those skillets!

The plywood floors are painted with Benjamin Moore Super Spec epoxy paint in linen white. Its a two part paint that's pretty easy to work with, and I believe it can be tinted to any BM color. It holds up great, just make sure your plywood seams are really even.

Thanks everyone! Deets: The floors are epoxy painted plywood (Benjamin Moore). The shelves are old church joists sourced from local architectural salvage store Provenance. The upstairs desk is made from joists salvaged from our own building and put on Ikea legs. Kitchen is 100% Ikea, the countertops are their butcherblock. Thats not a photo above the bed but one of my own paintings. Most of the artwork in the house is my own, and for sale! Sofa is a family hand-me-down, reupholstered. Other furniture finds came from a great place we discovered just down the street from us:
