We have grey epoxy floor in the dining/kitchen area of apartment, installed by the previous owners. Think it was a DIY job -- warm to walk on, and easy to clean, but scratches a lot and has dark indentations where it settled and small holes where air bubbles came up. Would keep it in the kitchen, but would not use for a common area if given the choice.

Shawn:
Yard? Car? what are these fabulous inventions of which you speak?:) With small being so cool these days, I would imagine a fair number of survey respondents are only contending with the interior 500-700 sq ft that they call home and take public transportation.. but that being said, if you have em, yes, the maintenance of yard/car is also valuable house-related work..

Thomas - if it makes you feel any better, the project is privately funded, and run completely by volunteers (through the Mayor's Volunteer center). Not sure that it affected other city agencies, except for the TLC, but I hear what you're saying...

Me too! Thank you AT for this article -- so good to know that it was a massive art project, and not an ad campaign. The Gardens in Transit website is wonderful - check it out:)

Richatnest - did you attach quiet rock to your existing wall or did you build a new wall? And if you attached to existing wall, how many inches of space did you lose? So glad to hear that worked wonders...Thanks all! Christine

Thank you all for your comments -- I am definitely a super novice DIY'er which is why I am now an AT fanatic:) I've done a fair bit of research, and the thought had crossed my mind to try to create a barrier myself -- however, the previous owner of this apartment was both an architect and engineer, and seemed to have constructed a fairly solid wall (drywall instead of original plaster) with insulation, and a homasote backing. so at this point, I'm unsure whether I just need a double layer, or if there are other acoustical issues that I need to work on/around...again thanks for the suggestions (yes NCB, I did see the article in NYT -- very good!) Best, Christine
