My insurance company gave me the choice of removing mine or putting a railing around it. Apparently 12 inches off the ground was too much of a liability to my home owners policy.

I madea sad attempt at this a few years ago. But mine stretched out to the size of a bean bag chair. It was fine, except that you could see the stuffing between the stitches. I used three strands of Red Heart with size 11 needles. If I ever get motivated to do this again, I would use a poly rope.

We did just the reverse. I hate the sound of wireless door bells and the one we ad was out of tune and out of synch. The first thing we did when we moved was to have the hard wired one restored.

We have a deep cabinet that we stuffed all of the smaller appliances in. The rest ( crockpot, stand mixer, etc.) get stored in the linen closet.

Don't work in your pjs. Get up, take a shower, and get dressed, then sit down and work. It makes it easier to transition.

I wish that AT would use the same angles for the 'After' shots as they do for the 'Before' shots.

I have a pc at home and a Mac at work. I see the pros and cons of both. I do not like how expensive Macs are nor do I like the turnover rates of Apple products now. Also, my iPad is a pain to use. My emails always look like a fifth grader typed them the due to the non- fabulous autocorrect feature. This week's fun: I keeps being changed to PRI and I have to go back in and manually change it. I don't even know what PRI is.

I found the original post of this four months ago when we moved into our apartment to find that the previous tenants took not only all the window treatments but also all of the hardware for the treatments. We have a front doir and a small sidelight window that needed something on them, but curtains were just too much in the small space. I spent two nights cutting out teardrops from frosted contact paper and it was well worth the time. They were easy to apply, if one went on crooked or had a bad bubble they came off easily without too much fuss. I've received tons of ompliments for the windows and lose up they look a lot better than I had expected.

In support of BX: I had a neighbor kid fall and scrape her knee in front of my house. She only started crying after her knee began to bleed. I told her not to worry, that the blood oozing out was washing away the germs. That seemed to satisfy her and she immediately stopped crying.

I keep a notebook and a pencil by the bed for nights when my brain doesn't want to shut down. Writing all those random thoughts down gets them out of my head and allows me to fall asleep easier.

I have a wonder washer that I used to use all the time when I lived alone. It was pretty fast and the clothes came out cleaner than hand washing in the sink. I put it in storage when I moved in with my boyfriend, but when we move into a bigger apartment I am going to grab it from the storage unit. Makes easy work out of washing stuff by hand and everything dried faster.

To make french fries in the oven I have cut potatoes and dipped them in beat egg whites before baking (to make them a little more crunchy). I wonder if that would work for the chips?

Your house is beautiful, Emily.
I lived in Rochester for 15 years and would have stayed forever had the job market been a little brighter. I moved to SF 4 years ago for work, but still own my house in Rochester (I am currently renting to a student). I miss living there so much; for the size of the city it has so much to offer. Great restaurants, live music, community support. I completely miss the coffee shops open 'til 11 and eating outside in the summer. I never thought I would miss the snow!
People ask me why I keep my house, and they don't seem to understand. In this day and age of "temporary" I love having a back-up plan. I do hope to move back some day.

I've made this three times now, and although it is delicious, it is always white and not the lovely yellow translucent liquid shown in the pictures. Even after straining multiple times through coffee filters. I used lemons, lots of lemons to get the milk to clot. Even with lots of clots that filter out the mixture remains white. Any suggestions?

I was given an introduction to seasoning by a woman I babysat for when I was in high school an aeon ago. One night, bored after the kids went to bed I spent an hour scrubbing the grill on their Wolf stove until it was sparkly clean. The next time I went over, she asked me not to clean anything, stating that they had spent the previous month trying to season the grill plate on the stove. Ooops!

As for my cast iron now, I save all aluminum foil we use in baking and what not, rinse it clean, ball it up and use that to get the stuck on bits off my cast iron. Doesn't seem to take the seasoning off. When the foil gets really ratty, we recycle it as we would have before we had used it as a scrubber.

If you can find it in your hardware store bowling alley wax works wonders on wood that need to be waterproof. I use it on the unpainted wood window sill in front of my sink and it works great.

For those of you in the Bay area that don't care for gin, you may want to try the new Botanivore gin by St. George Spirits in Alameda. I'm not a fan of gin, but this is amazingly smooth and bright and not overly junipered! I was completely surprised at the last tasting I had there that I enjoyed drinking it neat.
