Just get a blank book, and whenever your child says something funny, scribble it on the nearest scrap of paper. Then write the quotations down in your blank book. For some reason, this was so easy for me to keep up with--and I still have the baby book unfilled in.

I agree that regular blackout fabric is unhealthy--made of off-gassing PVC. Pottery Barn Kids sells blackout panels in cute fabrics and the liner is all polyester and totally blacks out light--white from the outside, but internally woven black threads that block light. (But the adult Pottery Barn curtains are the bad blackout fabric as well as the Pottery Barn Kids blackout LINERS that are sold individually. Only the printed (dots, stripes, solids) blackout kids curtains have the good blackout fabric. You can get a tension rod for a few dollars that just pops in and out of the window frame without leaving any marks. Just take down the blinds. I did in my rental.

We have two Chinese paper umbrellas hanging over the light fixtures in our nursery. It softens the glare, but they get full of spiders and dust and when you throw a ball in the room, they get knocked around. So it isn't really practical.

The best design has to be all the beautifully decorated cottages in Angelina Ballerina. I love her blue bed with the orange and white checkered quilt. All the interiors are so cozy.

I bought four of these white cotton duck (canvas) shower curtains from Mountain Weavers on amazon.

They already have the rivets on them (12 on each panel), so you can just hook them to the same hooks that hold up your curtains. One panel is pretty good, but two panels under each curtain make it pretty dark.

We have lots of alphabet toys, but she didn't start really learning her alphabet until we got these Newman's alphabet cookies. You just do one a meal, and say every word you can think of that starts with that letter--and you've pretty got the whole alphabet memorized in a month!

You can also buy just the slipcover for the beanbags at Pottery Barn Kids for $30 and zip up all your softies in there. For the cranky anti-consumerism posters up there, do the children outside of America not have grandmother's to sew teddy bears for them?

Just stick with the Flip. I keep it in my purse and use it all the time. The bigger video camera was used maybe three times. The baby walking and crawling will happen once, but then all the cute stuff that happens after that will happen when you least expect it, when you're out and about, and you won't have your bigger camera with you.

What about just having an actual potted flower to take home and plant? Daisies are too big, but little violas would be cute. Or viola seed packets.

IKEA had a mosquito net that was similar, and it was just plastic tubing stuck together with connectors to make a hula hoop to hold it open.

I like the Culligan faucet filter. It is not as cheaply made as other filters that attach to your faucet, and the flavor of the water is good. I had the city test our water, and there was a trace amount of lead in it. So your home pipes might have stuff in it that your city water doesn't. We have a glass pitcher with a glass lid on it that I got from Target, and we store the water in the fridge in that. Tastes great!

We always read in bed even during the day. The EKBY VALTER wall-mounted bookshelves from IKEA keep all our books off the floor without a lot of bulk. I know it isn't Montessori style to keep books up and away, but my daughter is old enough to step on a stool and get her books. When she was a baby, I was glad to have them up, or they would have all been ripped up. We've never read books on a couch, so I don't think you need to add furniture. Beds are great for reading, and you can also sit on the floor and lean against the bed sides, so put a rug down there. But puzzles and games are not good for storing in the child's room. Those are too difficult on soft carpet, so store those in the family room where there is a table.
