I was surprised at how much I missed grocery shopping when I moved home with my parents for a few months... I love to see what is new and fill my cart with healthy food. I'm not as pinched for time as some people so that takes away the stress and makes it more fun. Cook to Cook: Do You Enjoy Grocery Shopping? |

Having grown up in a developing country (Bolivia) I can tell you that they do worry about cooking odors; those who can afford it build their kitchen as a separate building, or an attached room with the only access from outside, or with a door that closes the kitchen off so that the odors don't spread through the rest of the house. But those who live in a one-room home don't have that choice. Not that I'm suggesting this as a solution :) just wanted to add my two cents. Help! I love Alton Brown and have learned so just from watching his shows! But I think the world needs all kinds of people, and some of us need food trends to keep us interested. I am also in favor of learning your basics first, and he is good at doing that in a funny and interesting way. Why Alton Brown Is Against Food Trends |

Very cute! When I was a kid we had a plant just like the one in the first picture. I used to wish I could shrink down really little and pretend the plant was a big forest. I guess I wasn't the only one! Cottage Town: Potted Plants Turned Into a Mini Village! |

I loooove the blue wall. I hadn't really noticed the green floor in the first picture but it seems that painting the wall blue accentuates the floor color (and perhaps better lighting). Before & After: A Funky, Colorful Kitchen Makeover |

She should definitely see a dietitian, and she can look one up near her at www.eatright.org and click on "find a registered dietitian". When you get to the map go to the upper right hand corner to select a specialty and click diabetes. There could be several reasons why her doctor may have said she is at risk, but this should not scare her; she can still have a healthy pregnancy even if she gets gestational diabetes, and she doesn't have to be afraid to eat some fruit or beans. Doctors have a lot of knowledge but they are not highly trained in nutrition, so she should seek help from a dietitian. Advice for Pregnant Mom at Risk for Gestational Diabetes? Good Questions |

I admit I had the same reaction before I knew 1. that pie crust is often made with shortening and 2. that lard is better for you than shortening. But I still think there is a negative connotation, I think many people would be surprised to know that lard is lower in saturated fat than butter is. Lard: What's the Big Deal? |
