Pouring some mineral oil onto the water will kill mosquito larvae. I'm pretty sure those mosquito dunks are safe, but probably not organic.

As long as you have a timeline and budget set, go ahead and start collecting the supplies/fixtures you need. But stick to that timeline. If next November comes and goes and your bathroom fixtures are still not in the bathroom, sell them, or donate them to your local Habitat for Humanity resale shop. (That's also a good place for you to pick up remodeling supplies you still need for cheap!) My family had a kitchen sink that was saved "because someone could use it". It lived under the porch for 20+ years.
Bottom line, if you need it, and have an immediate use for it, buy it. If not, let it go.

I've carved spoons before, and I can say that it takes a little practice to get it right. Expect your first few to be uneven and much smaller than you expected. Woodworking stores like Woodcraft.com have blanks (spoon sized pieces of wood with a nice straight grain) that you can buy. All you need is a few bent gouges, a pocket knife and some sandpaper!
Don't let your spoon soak in the sink, keep it FAR AWAY from the dishwasher, and re-seal it every so often by rubbing it with mineral oil. I've got an old wooden spoon that's been used regularly for years, and it still looks beautiful.

I did a little research, and it doesn't seem that there is a sealant product for ceramics that has been approved by the FDA except for glazes that need to be fired in a kiln. (at least not available in a retail/craft form) HOWEVER, most polyurethane is safe to use once it has dried completely. I guess I'll just buy a lead testing kit.

I promise I will not eat the dishes.
This is a great kit, I have an old gilt frame that needs some touching up, this would be perfect.
On the topic of food safety, does anyone know of some kind of spray on or paint sealant that can be used on glazed ceramics? I want to use some neat old flea-market dishes, but I'm afraid they have lead/asbestos/barium/ebola on them.

asibtroy, I don't know anyone who wouldn't want LEGOs.

Food and booze are great go-to gifts. Buy a level or two higher than the quality he/she is used to.

We keep the kiddie pool full for our standard poodle to splash in, we also freeze some of his kibble into blocks of ice (old yogurt containers work perfectly) so he has to slurp it out. He also likes chewing on frozen carrots and sweet potato slices.
For the cats, we make sure they have fresh water in several places in the house, and access to the cool basement.
One thing to remember is that the pavement gets HOT. If it's too hot for your bare feet, it's too hot for the dog's! Either get booties for the dog, or avoid the pavement.

I've had only good experiences with Etsy, however, several of my friends have had trouble with unreliable sellers.
I ALWAYS use pay pal. If a seller doesn't like using it, I consider it a red flag that there might be other areas where they are difficult to work with.
Join the community message boards and teams. This is a great way to make contact with sellers who are active and dedicated to the etsy mission.
