oh --- also, someone mentioned the couch. Both the couch and chair are from Natuzzi's Italsofa line --- their lower-priced line. The chaise lounge in the corner is from Mitchell Gold. Pamela's Home, Studio Gallery House Call | Apartment Therapy Boston |

I wonder if I'm the only one that thinks that Lonny suffers from "decor-itis" --- overdone interiors that manage to feel stiff and lifeless, despite (or maybe because) of all the effort put into the overwrought interiors. Yeah, I'm with blandwagon too. I don't really get the shock and ire of folks scandalized by cowskin rugs. In many African countries, cowskins have always been the traditional floor covering, so it's not exactly a new home decor trend. Jen Michael's Modern Retreat House Tour | Apartment Therapy Boston |

I have one more comment to add that no one else has mentioned. I think if you invest in a large vibrant painting that you love (that maybe picks up that light blue but definitely adds some reds and oranges), you will see this room spring to life. What you currently have on the wall seems to disappear. You will be amazed at how much life this room will take on with some fantastic original artwork. Interesting... some commenters seem to suggest that having some restrictions on where a dog can go in the home is somehow cruel. I have a dog who sheds and who can be a little bit smelly at times because he likes to roll around in the dirt outside (he's a dog after all!). I don't want all his shedding hair and dirt on my couch. Sorry. He has a beautiful, comfortable dog bed, which he loves, and he gets plenty of cuddles and affection. I don't think he is suffering, because he can't sleep in my bed or get on the couch, and if I feel I need someone to cuddle with in bed, I choose my husband first. It is amazing that this place is only 300 square feet. Seems much bigger! I love the classic modernity of it all. Very, very nice! A Garret Transformed House Tour | Apartment Therapy New York |

I get the sparse aesthetic (because I lean that way myself) but I do think there is a coldness here that could quickly be addressed by a reader's earlier suggestion of some worn vintage area rugs thrown around. Then the place would still feel sparse and airy but cozier and warmer too. Now, of course, if she has constant leaks, maybe that's what's stopping her... You need artwork. Something dramatic and colorful in the well of the stairway, it's the first thing you see when you come in --- along with a nice light fixture, and you're practically all set. You also need art in your livingroom. I would also go large, and because you have grey and black in the room I think a piece that has bright reds and blacks would look fantastic and you could echo whatever colors you find in your new paintings in throw pillows and a couple of accessories. I don't see the "IKEA factor" that another commenter remarked on. I think the space is light and bright and uncluttered (maybe that's the Ikea factor?) and I think it's very well done. Especially in Boston where there are few places to go for modern furniture and fixtures. Nelly Ivailo's Brave New World House Tour | Apartment Therapy Boston |

I would paint it. I feel that bright white trim is interesting but not busy, and instantly cheers up a place. But that's just me... Wood Trim: To Paint or Not To Paint? Good Questions | Apartment Therapy DC |

Wow, a nice piece of colorful art (big) would dramatically transform your space. But you definitely need to get rid of the mirror and I would think about a different sort of set-up for the TV. Help Up With Our Big White Wall? Good Questions | Apartment Therapy New York |

I just replaced an ugly old home depot ceiling fan with a beautiful pendant lamp in my bedroom. I couldn't be happier. I live in Boston, which doesn't have extended periods of heat, and I figure if it does get unbearable in the room, I can use the standing circulating fan I already have. The other 11 months and 2 weeks of the year, I can instead wake up to a beautiful lighting fixture. Are You a Fan of Ceiling Fans? Good Questions | Apartment Therapy Los Angeles |

Okay, a little late to this thread, but I just wanted to say I think the idea is absolutely fabulous and that we did something similar by incorporating the TV into a divider built to look like the original architectural detail in our 100-year-old home. The height for us is perfect for viewing, but then again, nine times out of 10 when I am watching TV I'm stretched out on the couch. I also find that TVs over mantles hurt my neck!
