I have a vintage style breadbox from Target (similar to this, but yellow: http://modernorganicfabrics.squarespace.com/storage/2010-01-29.jpg), and I use it to store foil, plastic wrap, and parchment paper. It's the perfect size.

Like nikkimay, I always end up with a lot of liquid at the bottom of my (stand mixer) bowl. I was hoping to see what the bowl looked like in each of these steps. I will try the suggestion of folding the liquid in, but I suspect that I just don't whip them long enough.

I have the Hario Mini Mill (http://shop.hariousa.com/product.sc?productId=36&categoryId=10) and have been using it for four months.

It is better than a blade grinder for sure, but there is a considerable amount of dust, even on the loosest grind. Also, while spending the time to hand grind every morning isn't a huge inconvenience, I think a larger diameter burr would cut back on the workout.

All in all, I think it is a great step up from a blade grinder without dishing out the big $ on a higher quality electric burr grinder. The fact that I'm saving a bit of electricity is a nice consequence.

I recently became a full-fledged vegetarian. It was something that I had been leaning towards for a long time. What finally pushed me over the edge was Bittman's book How to Eat Everything Vegetarian. It is similar to Joy of Cooking or his non-veg book, How to Eat Everything, in that it is a sort of food encyclopedia. It's wonderful to have on hand. My favorite recipe from the book is braised lentils. I make this once or twice a week. Echoing sentiments from above, beans and legumes are very filling and healthy. We tend to have them in some form almost every meal.

I have a bowl of pomegranate seeds sitting in the fridge. I wonder if I could dry them in the oven.

Reduce one part of each jam and vinegar. Season to taste. Spread sauce over your favorite protein and broil.

For example, I do this with apricot jam and balsamic vinegar. I also add ginger to this. Then I spread it over a whole salmon and broil. (I usually baste a second time a few minutes before it is finished.)

Another one to try would be blackberry jam and apple cider vinegar over chicken...

I have the Taylor thermometer that falnfenix linked and it works well. I find that if I wrap the cord around the handle of my pan *just so* the probe doesn't touch the bottom.

Joy is the single cookbook that I could not live without. It's a newer, updated edition that I picked up at a used bookstore about five years ago. I use it so often that it is almost always sitting on the counter, as opposed to the cookbook shelf across the room. And I definitely turn there before heading to the internet, because it means not writing any directions/ingredients down or schlepping my laptop into the kitchen. Also, I trust JoC before I trust most internet resources.

Have I made recipes from start to finish? Probably not, because I never do that with any recipe.

These are popular in the south? I thought they were of Russian origins. I had them for the first time at a Russian family's home and subsequently made them according to a recipe from a Russian cookbook.

They are certainly delicious.

I love, love the Nut Thins that I've been getting from Whole Foods. They are light and crispy and not at all greasy.

I have a scale, but most of my cookbooks and recipes don't give weights, so I haven't made much use of it.
