My son is 4 and Santa is bringing him a tool set. I bought a Craftsman tool bag at Kmart and am putting in safety glasses, scrap wood, a measuring tape, a hammer, two screwdrivers, and various nails and screws. I'm actually debating on picking up a handheld mini drill for him as well. Tell Us...the Best Gifts for Preschoolers? |

I have two kids and am still on the fence about whether or not we'll have one more. I completely agree with the poster who said the baby gear industry is a racket. I still remember when I went to register for my first and almost had a breakdown in the bottle aisle at Babies R Us. It was overwhelming. We registered for a few things and, between two kids, we used everything at some point. However, our house is small so after my youngest outgrew the infant gear, I passed it on to others. My theory is that if we have another, I'll borrow the gear I decide I need and avoid buying the things I don't. Good luck in your efforts to take the minimalist approach! And further agree with other posters that the "must have" lists vary from parent to parent and even from baby to baby (for example, my son used the swing maybe twice while my daughter, who's two, would probably still want to sit in it if we still had it). I'll second the Discovery Toys Marbleworks. It's the favorite toy in my house and every single kid who comes over heads right to it (we don't even disassemble it - only time all the pieces get put away is when my 2 year old daughter goes godzilla on it and tears it apart). It doesn't look as pretty as the wooden ones but it is fun to play with! Wooden Marble Runs Roundup |

Very cute toys but this did make me laugh - my bigger concern is hoping the bathroom itself looks clean rather than the design of my kids bath toys. Though maybe if I had these, it would offer a distraction from the toothpaste in the sink and the grungy shower curtain! 10 Favorite Toys for the Bath |

Reminds me of a more commercial looking blabla doll. I splurged on the blabla Trixie doll for my daughter and she loves it and was toying with getting her one of the blabla animal dolls. This looks just as huggable and is a little cheaper - thanks for the info! Fair Indigo: Fairly Made and Fairly Cute Kids' Soft Goods Store Profile |

I'll third Animalia - in fact, I was just reading it to my three month old today ;). The Eleventh Hour is also great. Graeme Base is an amazing illustrator and there really is a lot to see in his books. I'll second a House is a House for Me. Also like The Day Jimmy's Boa Ate the Wash. My two year old also loves looking at a "My First Dictionary" book. Can't say I'm a fan but there are plenty of objects to name! Visually Busy Books ala Richard Scarry? Good Questions |

We have the Ikea Spoka nightlight in our son's room. Same exact thing except it doesn' require batteries - you just plug it in to charge it. It also changes colors (or stays on one color, depending on what setting you choose). I want to pick up another one for my daughter's room. GloMate Jr Night Light |
