after the week we've all had, well I have no desire to really leave my house! I'll be making lots of different quick breads for freezing. I might make a pork roast. Whatever I can find in my freezer.

I'm having friends over for dinner & board games tomorrow night. I'll be making Lisa's Lazy Day Pot Roast http://www.morrisgrassfed.com/resources/106-lisas-lazy-pot-roast which is my tried and true recipe. Plus crashed potatoes, green salad and maybe roasted carrots. For dessert I'm baking homemade funfetti cake. Using the recipe here. :) Though I use a different frosting recipe.

No, it seems like a waste of money. I've kept a stick of butter on the counter in a butter dish for forever. My Mom did it before me. I've never had a stick go bad, even in the summer.

Hooray! I have Faith's casserole book and _love_ it. I love this site! Truth be told, I haven't made a ton of recipes-it's more of a community for me. I love the Friday night, "what's cooking this weekend" and "Sunday Morning Meditations" The recipes I've used I've liked very much. I will add a big YES to the nutritional information. Even if it was a simple, calorie, carb, protein content that would be so helpful for those of us that need to watch such things.

I just went on a cooking bender. I made homemade chicken soup, homemade mac & cheese and a basil and lemon vanilla cake. Half the mac& cheese went into individual servings to be frozen for my son's lunches this week-the other half went into our bellies. The chicken soup will be dinner tomorrow and lunches for me throughout the week and the cake-we'll see how much is left tonight. Tomorrow I need to make banana bread.

I don't think my husband ever held the baby and had to juggle eating, or whatever with the free hand. I however did. Why is the reference to Mom gathering heat?

Those hand pies look yummy!

I need to resupply my banana bread stash. I think I'll also be making some soups on Sunday. Just need to decide which ones before I go grocery shopping tomorrow.

I have a hand mixer tha must be circa 1980 or so. I think it's a Sunbeam. It's white and brown. I got it at a thrift store. I snatched it up as soon as I saw it, because I knew it would still be working and work for years to come. I love it.

I don't have a lot of my Mom's kitchen items-a salt box that needs to be cleaned and redone. I also have a couple of her aprons. She wore aprons every time she was in the kitchen. I wear them when I'm making one of her recipes or need to feel her near me. If I'm wearing her apron, I know she's standing next to me saying, "stir slowly, not too hot, let it sit, not too fast."

Ah, yes this would be me! I get the teenager and dh out the door and the next hour or so are all for me. I commute to work, but work part time and go in late to miss the traffic. So between 8 and 9, I might go back to bed, I might surf the internet, I drink coffee, I pack up my lunch. It's good. I'm trying to instill the love of Saturday brunch on my kid, but at this point he'd rather veg out in front of video games.

I wear one about 90% of the time. I have a good collection. My Mom _always_ wore one. When she died I inherited a couple of her aprons. I wear them when I'm cooking one of her recipes or if I want to feel connected to her. I don't get the aprons that only come up half way. The splatters and splashes I get are usually on the top of my body!

I like the challenge myself each xmas holiday baking season. I've mastered carmel corn, I've mastered peanut brittle and toffee, I've mastered pumpkin rolls. I someday will do a buche de noel. The one area I'm afraid of is fudge. Real fudge, the kind that you have to str and stir. I can do the one with marshmallow fluff, it's the other version I'd like to master next.

Spending $40 on a salt container is God's way of saying you have too much money. For years I used a ramekin without a lid. I live in the Seattle area (super wet) and never had problems with it caking. But I use it every day. And it's kosher salt. Now, in the salt shaker with regular table salt, yes that cakes. I wanted something a little bigger than the ramekin so I didn't have to fill it up all the time. I found one of these at an antihttp://www.etsy.com/listing/107792704/vintage-refrigerator-container-1930s-or?utm_source=googleproduct&utm_medium=syndication&utm_campaign=GPS&gclid=CN-X1pD3mrUCFQfhQgodNH0A8Aque/junk store. I didn't pay over 10bucks for it.

I don't think you can recycle pyrex-it has a coating on it.

I really need to go thru my drawers and send some stuff to the thrift store. I don't need two apple slicers

I'm agree with the other comments that say the bagged/binned prewashed salad greens are not an indulgence. Because I'll eat it that way. If I buy a head of lettuce I have all intention of eating it, but what really happens is it sits in the veg bin turning into a science experiement. Also, I don't consider the individual cups of applesauce an indulgence. The big jar goes moldy quickly.

After fine tuning my cold brew coffee at home I consider buying iced coffee at a coffee shop an indulgence. Oh! I know-the awful for me and oh so delicious flavored creamers. My favorite is only available during the holidays-peppermint mocha. I stock pile them because they have a long life in the fridge.

Happy Birthday VintageJenta!

I will be making this

Thou I will be making the roux in the same pan that I brown the meat in-for extra flavor. Plus, not using frozen veggie mix-maybe I'll add more carrots and celery.

Your kitchen looks familiar! My first rental, and the first two houses I owned! I finally have a "finished" kitchen-with _no_ storage! I agree with whomever posted about keeping the Le Crueset on top of the fridge-and the KitchenAid-that would make me cranky to have to get down all the time. Keep the Le Crueset on your stove top. That's what I do.

Thank you everyone for your great ideas! I especially like the ones about eating in locally owned restaurants and having a "night out" at home. I really do need to get better about planning ahead and freezing things for later use. Just as a side note-the little fella in the picture is my son, who was about 4 at the time, he's now 13! We had just finished eating at Buddy's Italian Restaurant in Pocatello, Idaho. If Buddy's was local, this would be an even harder resolution to make!

I'm working full days M-T this week (usually part time) and with a commute won't get home until 5:45 or 6:00. So today I made and froze stuffed shells with ground turkey, I'm poaching chicken breasts for a chicken pot pie for tonight and tomorrow night and making something to take to the office pot luck tomorrow. What? I don't know yet.
