This was absolutely delicious! (This coming from a first time mandoline user who managed to cut herself while not using the "gripper" to hold the sprouts. That being said, I will absolutely make it again, likely by cutting the sprouts with a knife as opposed to using a mandoline.)

Michellejenn - what a great idea! I doubt there is any way to manage what books guests will bring, and as you said, you want people to bring what is meaningful to them. Why not donate duplicates to a local school, library, or women and childrens' shelter? I don't see how anyone could be offended by that.

We live in a typical Philly rowhouse - shared, not all that thick walls. Of course, it's the city, so we expect normal everyday noise. We did not expect for our neighbor's dog to bark *incessantly* for two hours each and every time they leave her alone. They were very apologetic when we talked with them about it and said they would buy her a shock collar to see if that helps. Um, why not take her out for more than a half block walk twice a day? Why not take her with you to the kids' baseball games if she so clearly does not like being left alone? Yeesh. We also did not expect for their outdoor cat to use our small garden as his personal litter box, but that now pales in comparison to the nonstop dog yapping.
