I did this last week when it was published and would do it again. I am unable to do a full push-up without my knees on the ground, and I worried that the upper-body exercises would register as "rest" for me, but the workout felt good and intense and I was sore for at least 2 days afterward.

When I was going to graduate school and working full-time, I used to really miss having my weekends to myself. Walking to the library on crisp fall Sunday afternoons, I would pass so many people watching football at sports bars. I'm not even a huge fan, but it made me super wistful - it just represented free time! Last fall, the first since I finished grad school, I made a point to enjoy a couple of games on Sunday afternoons at a sports bar. It made me feel proud of the hard work I had done.

Vintagejenta - I have wondered the same thing about local producers versus large grocery store providers!

I wonder why green beans made the Dirty Dozen list last year but not this year.

I have loved your series on "ways to eat" simple, basic staples - black beans, a potato, eggs, seasonal veggies. I think it would be great if you could find a way to work in that approach.

Smitten Kitchen's snickerdoodle recipe is so easy and is completely from scratch. You only need 8 ingredients, that I always have - flour, butter, white sugar, eggs, salt, baking soda, cinnamon, and cream of tartar. You don't even have to let the butter come totally to room temp, or refrigerate the dough, if you are pressed for time.

This looks great - I'm going to try with a mix of black beans and pinto beans.

I love this idea, too! An added benefit for me is that it would make me much better about keeping my place "company-ready" :/

This post reminds me of the "Make or Buy" posts I used to see on The Kitchn, where the author would break down the cost, efforts, and success of the end product in making from scratch food products that many of us just buy at the store (sandwich bread, crackers, mayo). I really enjoyed those. I suggest an eggnog, or other holiday-themed, Make or Buy!

This is a delicious, filling, healthy soup!

I made a few changes/interpretations - I used dried, cooked navy beans, and I didn't have any tomato puree so I just used some jarred marinara. I love garlic so I doubled it, and I added half of a red bell pepper. Ina Garten's recipe for ribollita includes bacon or pancetta, so I added 3 slices of large-dice bacon, too, but got more bacon flavor than I would have wanted. I think I would have preferred 1 or 2, both for flavor and healthfulness.

I work for a firm, Winston Art Group (www.winstonartgroup.com), that handles these exact situations!

We get primary and/or secondary auction houses to do walk-throughs of collections, and to submit proposals on how to handle the sale. Sometimes we do a buyout - where a secondary auction house offers to buy the contents outright, and leave the place in broom-clean condition. Or, sometimes when appropriate, we advise on consigning top items to auction individually. Our company takes a small commission but the total commission is much less than you would pay going to a secondary auction house directly. Also, since the secondary auction houses know that they are in a competitive bidding scenario, they are motivated make their highest offer.

I made these tonight - they are delicious!

The fudge topping is great - it's soft and chewy but not sticky or messy. I did not find them particularly fragile. In fact they seem pretty foolproof - I was impatient and did not let the butter soften much, and I think I may have left out a half-cup of oats - and they taste great.

Mine needed closer to 13-14 minutes baking, though. I took out one sheet after 10 minutes and felt that the oats still had an uncooked texture. At 13-14 minutes, the cookies were not burned, but the oats were cooked.

Gragnano, which is a slightly fizzy red wine from Campania, is my favorite. To my palate it's not quite as sweet as many sparkling reds and tastes great with pizza.

Try Motorino in the East Village - the brunch pizza is topped with eggs! Roberta's, in Bushwick, also offers eggs as a topping. But I have never seen it by the slice, either.

I'm with thescreamqueen - thick and bready crusts ruin it for me!

I ordered a veggie pizza once in Ireland that came topped with the usual - pls corn! That was a pizza dealbreaker, too

Thanks for the reply, Faith. One of the "Categories" listed at the end of the post is "Cookbook Review", which is why I received it as such. Perhaps it was mislabeled.

I love thekitchn, but I have to say I'm disappointed in the cookbook reviews on this site. I wish you would try out a few of the recipes and comment on whether the directions are clear, the cook-times seem to be on target, the yield is accurate, the portions are appropriate, etc - not full-on recipe reviews, but it would definitely be helpful to know whether or not, in general, the reviewer had success in actually using the book, and whether or not the book's recipes accurately reflect actual results.

Cookbooks aren't just for reading - they're for using, for a specific purpose. While the ease of reading, analysis of the format, and a description of the topics covered is useful to know, I think the tastiness of the food and the experience of following the recipes is much more important.
