MoJonson and Vincent B. - funny!

While I love my cat more than anything, she's a cat. She isn't going to watch TV! I agree with a previous comment - what a waste of electricity! I've witnessed what she does all day, and it's sleeping. When I'm actually at home on a weekday, she gives me a look like, what are you still doing here?

Now, like a previous commenter, I do leave the blinds partially open in case she wants to watch the birds flit around the tree outside.

Maybe it's different for dogs!

Weird, comments won't take a plus sign. 3 plus days...there, I'm done.

I sort of adopted my cat on an impulse, and when I brought her home, I was racked with buyer's remorse of sorts, thinking about all the responsibility and changes this would cause. Now when I think about that, I want to kick myself. Thank goodness I did keep her! And the little one that came along a few years later...I got her for a few bowls of kibble.

Cats are hardly any work at all! I like to joke that a cat is like a goldfish. Yes, I have to clean up after her and I really should vacuum more, and if I go away for 3 days, I need to find someone to check on her, but that's about it.

I imagine having a dog is a lot more work, but I'm sure it's worth it!

I feel bad for people like Modfan who care more about their stuff than other living things. I like my stuff, too, and my cat scratches up my sofa, but what am I going to do - get rid of my cat to save my stupid sofa? Hell no!

I don't decorate. I've read several articles about how decorating your cubicle too much can keep you from getting promoted. See below. I only have one photo up.

Funny how I was so reluctant to adopt a cat at first, and now I can't imagine life without her. She is so bratty - chewing on plastic bags, escaping out the front door, getting into everything, coating my apartment in fur - but I love her! She just purrs constantly. I love that sound.

I miss my little one. She would carry little stuffed animals around in her mouth and leave them at my bedroom door! She purred like a diesel engine when you scratched her belly.

I generally like most other people's pets, too.

Nice apartment. Beautiful cats. The black cat looks exactly like mine.

Well, I'm sorry that I don't really have any suggestions, but I'd like to make three comments:
1. Thank you, Rachel, for showing us a perfectly decent, but very typical apartment. I think this reflects the majority of apartments (at least mine, and I don't even have as nice a floorplan), and I wish we'd see more of these where people do a good job with what they've got. Which leads me to:
2. Rachel, your apartment is beautiful...you've really done a nice job decorating and arranging it.
3. I'm gratified to hear someone else say, "finding the right furniture to hide/store/utilize space, and not wanting to always be spending money."

Kind of on subject: please, can anyone tell me where I can find a drying rack that hangs over a door, but isn't mounted to the door? I saw this awhile ago but haven't been able to find one for sale. Thank you!

Indoor furniture outside is white trash. Sorry, Abby. And I've lived in SoCal for several years now, and I can't always tell when it is going to rain...hence my rusty bike.

About SoCal winters: gray, cool, and rainy.

Why don't you move the two ottomans under the window over to the couch, and move the big matching ottoman under the window?

I love when my cat crawls under the covers with me and purrs us both to sleep, but that happens rarely, and only lasts ten minutes. The rest of the time, she tends to walk around on the bed, get into stuff, chew on my glasses, and generally wake me up. So I lock her out at night. And I don't really like cat hair in my bed. She's allowed in during the day, but I always make my bed. I'm not a good sleeper, so I am protective of what sleep I can get.

My other cat always slept quietly on the corner of the bed all night unless she got hungry, so I let her in at night.

I read an article once about how pets in the bed/bedroom do significantly disrupt their owners' sleep.

My father recommended boric acid for all pest problems, and when I did a lot of Internet research on it, it was very highly recommended. It did seem to help with an ant infestation I had a few years ago.
It's not good for pets to ingest, so keep your pet out of the room where you've spread the boric acid. Then follow kimg924's instructions.

I use Tidy Cat - the one with the green lid (sorry, can't remember the exact name). I'm really only using it out of habit and convenience. I used pine litter for awhile, but I can't remember now why I went back to Tidy Cat... Anyway, I am reading these comments with interest because I would really like to switch to a litter that doesn't track EVERYWHERE (and is a little more natural).

I do have a question! My indoor cat likes to go outside, but I won't let her roam around without supervision (we're not allowed to have outdoor cats where I live and there's coyotes). There's a short walkway with a railing from my apartment to the stairs. Do you have any ideas of how I could close off the walkway so she could sit outside but couldn't escape down the stairs? Then I could also leave my door open during nice days.

P.S. She's a good jumper.

Thank you!

I've always understood that cats like sleeping on newspaper (and I guess that goes for boxes and paper bags) because it's like insulation - it keeps them warm. I've also read that cats like sleeping on/in defined areas.

In my own experience, my cat has never used anything I've spent more than $2 on (except the cat tree - she likes to be up high, so she gave me a break).

Maybe the writer is not allowed/doesn't want to make holes in her walls, so that's why she is using tension rods to hang her curtains.

I agree with ammanda: green would look nicer, but I would pull it from your bedspread or little rug. I think the lime green looks out of place because I don't see that color anywhere else.

tauremini, in response to your question about a weekly menu planner: I found a great resource on the Food Network site.

http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/lf_hl_diabetic_planner/0,3151,FOOD_29017,00.html

Even though it is targeted towards diabetics, the menus are quite good and very healthy, and you could probably adapt them pretty easily to your own diet. I often modify them according to what I have on hand.

Another great menu planner is the Month of Meals series by the American Diabetes Association. My favorite is "Meals in Minutes", which incorporates convenience/fast food into the menus. Again, you could probably use these books as a guideline for your own menus.
