Ideas for Outgrown Play Kitchen? Good Questions

I hate this. One, I have a sailor potty mouth. I wouldn't write a contract for my child full of curse words though. Two, it's a gift. Whaaat? Xmas gifts shouldn't come with contracts. She owns it, but if he breaks it he buys it, whatever. Give the gift and be done with it.

I don't get why a 13 year old needs to turn in his phone at 7:30. I don't get why he needs to turn it in. Set some reasonable rules (7:30 seems ridiculous to me, my 2 year old goes to bed at 7:30) and expect your child to follow them. If he doesn't, take it away!

p.s. My solution, although it isn't quite the same, is to batch cook on weekends and store everything in our very cold fridge. This allows me to prepare larger batches because I don't have the time to cook every day. But it means a lot more repetition :(

Short On Space? Why Even Apartment Dwellers Should Consider a Chest Freezer

We had to give our chest freezer (scored for $50 basically brand new on craigslist in SF bay area) to a family member when we moved from florida to DC -- our building doesn't allow them. I wish every week that I still had it. Now that we're likely to be moving soon, I am pretty despondent over the loss of that sweet deal, although happy that my cousin is getting great use out of it! I used to do a tremendous amount of freezer cooking but we don't have the room for it.

Love our kid's maxtrix low loft bed. When her brother is a little older we plan to bunk it with an additional bed. Love the modularity, sturdiness (best that we saw for the price), and the fact that we didn't have to buy the entire thing at once!!!

As for price, we saved a ton by buying it from an online dealer (sendmetomyroom.com) to assemble ourselves. Bunk beds and any solid kids furniture that will actually hold up are quite pricey. You kind of just have to suck it up. Or buy the tromso.

Instead of rice I would do a baked potato thing. You can cook the potatoes in advance - I've seen a few sites devoted to a baked potato bar. Instead of soups, think chunky stews, the traditional toppings, whatever.

i am guessing the writer was emotionally attached enough to bibi not to realize that it looks ready to dissect! but also makes it weirdly appropriate for the tween/teen years???

I think if you find this wok to be of sentimental value you would honor your mother by selecting and purchasing a regular wok that will last forever.

We gave up on finding a cheese substitute for our MSPI infant (milk protein intolerance). We once bought some almond cheese, which he adored. We were horrified to find it had casein in it (milk protein). Fortunately he's outgrown it and eats real cheese with the best of them. Just a warning, don't buy almond cheese if you're looking for vegan cheese. I can't fathom why you would want it if you are OK with eating casein.

I am planning on getting my kids Maxtrix beds. As they are still quite young (3 & 1), I am going to start with one bed, and add the other later to make "low" bunks, quite likely also installing safety rails on the bottom one for the youngest. We checked them out in store (and will order them from a local dealer - actually cheaper!) and they are extremely sturdy. I don't buy kids needing big huge beds. Dorm beds are twin XL and they can get that length in college. In my house, they will have twin beds. When we move from toddler bed/crib to bigger beds, I plan on upgrading my clouds & stars crib sheets for the twin ones. I LOVE THESE SHEETS. I am under 5 feet tall and they make changing the stupid crib sheets a snap.

If in the future we live in a place where the kids can have their own rooms (they are opposite gender), that's great, we'll separate the beds, get the lofting equipment, and they can have play area or desks underneath.

I would instead get an oven range that has one of those mini ovens and a larger (but smaller than normal) bottom oven. But that's probably not helpful for this particular dilemma. I would LOVE one of those because we use our toaster oven all the time but it's not well insulated, doesn't have a fan, so it heats up the rest of the house.

Always buy golden flax seeds. And if you buy them milled (I do), get the cold milled ones. Rancid flax is nasty. They smell fishy to me when they are rancid. On the plus side, if you put them in everything (I do), you use them up before they go bad. I keep mine in a bag in the fridge, and a small amount in a mason jar in the counter. I use a jar a week or more. It's a fantastic way to add healthy fiber and o3s to everything.
