Sorry this is coming so late, but I thought I should answer people's questions, in order from the top:

@ heynowtex: yes the kitchen originally ended with full-height windows, just as it is now.

@ dn: I stipped the concrete with a product called Peelaway. The next step is to spray muriatic acid on them. Then they should be finished.

@ j'nai: The artist's name is Douglas Smith. He also painted the Mexican wrestler hanging over the toilet. I don't know how to get in touch with him any longer.

@ DanielleK: I had the lamp shade custom made. It was originally black velvet trimmed in gold!

@ Calaska623: The giant strainer is by C. Jere c. 1982. I found mine in Palm Springs about 10 years ago. I would start with ebay.

@ Veejay - It's not a Galub. It's by an artist named Douglas Smith. There is a Jeff Koons puppy on the coffee table, though, if you look real close...

@ icarus: yes the whole kitchen is painted black, including the ceiling. The passthrough is original, but I had to re-open it as it had been covered at some point
