I have a friend that removed an arced multi head shower during their bathroom renovation. It was there when they bought the house, and they hated it with a passion. Apparently, because of city ordinances, there was just no way to get the pressure needed for it to be effective. They had to take longer showers and most of the water spraying from the sides wasn't even making it to their bodies, just going down the drain.

"Home" by Witold Rybczynski discussed society as two groups, sitters and squatters. Although the issue was comfort and not health, the shortcomings of the chair were hit on. One argument was that while one group kept trying to get comfortable by creating new and better chairs for millennia, the other group found it easier to get and stay comfortable with minimal effort.

I once saw a great treatment of this in an architecture firm; they had sanded the surface. It looked almost like their walls were lined with suede, at least, the parts not covered with trace.

I'm with OMORIALA here. While it sounds nice, it's a bit misleading to call this white coffee, especially when there is "white" coffee. Which, by the way, is delicious but has oodles of caffeine.

I don't think this is a trend, they've just given it a cute name... Like a few other people have mentioned, most coffee shops offer "steamers", which is all this is.

I’m in the “gave up my cell phone for Skype” camp, with some overlap in the “if you’re not my mother don’t text me on my emergency/travel cell (and how did you get this number!?)” camp. Because I’ve set my net-number to scramble on outgoing calls, I have no choice but to leave a message or nobody will know I’ve called them. As to texting, I personally hate it. If what I have to say can be communicated in a sentence, chances are it can go without being said. And don’t get me started ranting about the shortcuts people try to take when texting, I could go on for hours before I grabbed the nearest person, ripped their head off and started sucking the marrow from their bones. Also, I'm 26, unless you're a pre-teen you really can't call me old.

One thing I’ve learned from working in a fine furniture store, most people do not know how to properly care for their furniture, or what to look for. If anybody ever has any questions we always try to inform them of what needs to be done to maintain and care for our furniture; but it gets annoying have to explain often that it’s not “our” tables that require extra effort, it’s the material regardless of where it’s purchased.

@ANITA83, the chances are very good your table has been waxed. Wax is used to keep the wood moisturized; it provides [bare] minimal protection and doesn’t alter the look of the table. It does need to be reapplied every few months as it wears off, and you will still need to follow all the basic prevention. If you want something with less maintenance, you should look into sealing it. It somewhat defeats the point of buying a natural wood table, but sometimes it’s a compromise between what you want and what fits into your lifestyle. Something we recommend to people with small children who insist they don’t want to go the route of sealing, have a piece of glass or acrylic cut to size. Again, somewhat defeats the point of buying a wood table, but it will be something that saves them a boatload of trouble when their kids are older.

I bought my Feed 100 bag [http://www.feedprojects.com] several years ago and it far surpasses any other of my reusable bags. It is pricier, but the purchase does donate a set number of lunches to the UN World Food Program.

Most importantly: it's cotton, folds into itself and zips closed, and the long handles make it easy to carry on the shoulder [as long as it's not overly full].

The painting is "Girl with a Yellow Turban". "Girl with a Pearl Earring" was the title of the book and movie.

I'm finding this series very disappointing... I was hoping you'd be doing an in-depth testing and comparison, perhaps actually going to a lighting lab and bringing forth objective results. Comparing the different light given off is far too subjective to really be considered a test. The other information seem to just be taken from the packaging, which is notoriously unreliable.

I really enjoyed this; I gave up [i.e. lost and decided not to replace] my cell phone about two years ago and I am very happy with the decision. I do keep a prepaid for travel and emergency purposes, the only people with the number are my mother, my boss, and my roommate, but it's used so rarely that it only costs about $20 every three months to keep the service.

The main downside of not having a cell phone: because they can't call you whenever they want, most people will not call you anymore.
The main upside of not having a cell phone: when people do call you [home phone], they have a reason.

It's a change you have to experience to understand, but it's cut way down on my stress levels and allowed me more time to unwind and disconnect. Extra bonus, no 4am calls from friends telling you how wasted they are and how they can't figure out why everybody is getting angry with them.

I think I'm commenting late here, but logically speaking this seems to be a moot point. It's the same material at different stages of processing. To say that fur is unacceptable but the skin remaining after the fur is chemically scorched away is perfectly fine, makes a head spin.

Then you have the unavoidable conflicts caused by the disgruntled fur lovers. Wool is technically fur after all, how long until this technicality is brought up and people rally against the use of wool...just because they can.

Always create at least three backups and keep them current. I learned this the hard way. About two years ago my primary drive got a virus, trying to do the restore and my secondary drive failed [still don't know why, just petered out]; luckily I had a third drive that I could still get most of the info back; but I hadn't kept us with the tertiary drive and I lost about 3-months of files.

Being Prepared For When "It" Happens

When I was little my mother used to decorate for the holidays, going all out for Halloween and Christmas. I never really took up the practice when I moved out, and now that she has no more children at home she doesn't really continue the practice either. I know she has gets a Christmas Tree every year still [albeit a small one], but I myself don't tend to spend Christmas at home and so don't feel the need to get one.

Anybody who thinks it's difficult to pirate eBooks (or anything for that matter...) is clearly not adept in pirating. Kudos to you for being an upstanding citizen!

Perhaps I’m biased, as you’ll have to rip my books out of my cold dead hands, but I personally don’t see this transition happening anytime soon. Individual colleges might jump on the bandwagon, but it’s a hard pill to swallow for many students to shell out the money for a device they may not want, and will be obsolete very soon, as well as their required texts. Additionally, obscure, out-of-print, and highly specialized texts (I had all of these required for classes at one point or another) are not likely to make the leap to digital in the near future.

As far as primary education [which I assume is being included in these numbers based on the references they give], the likelihood of that occurring is even less. Parents aren’t likely to pay the money every year to buy their children new textbooks, and new devices every 2-3 years; and I can guarantee you that the system won’t pay for them.

Actually, sara.b has the right idea if we’re talking about a development race [leapfrogging is a wonderful thing!]; but if I understood the article right, the reason we're in second is because we are attempting to develop and broaden the use of renewable energies and China isn't. It’s not about energy usage, percentage or development; it’s about who investors are putting their money in.

It's saying developers are investing in China's renewable energy attempts because they focus on wind energy [it's tried and true], but the US is trying to focus on developing Solar and other forms of renewable energy which are just too much of a risk.

There are 31 glasses in that first photo. Who’s going to want to stand around washing 31 glasses after the guests leave? Why do you keep that many glasses around in the first place? I hope you have a large family or entertain large parties frequently, because that’s an obscene amount of glassware. I’ll stick with throwing my compostable cups in the yard waste bin, or I’ll go with E53s idea of BYOC.
