I think that the mattress looks ok...but if you want nice crisp lines you should probably first change your choice of bedding-- the nice fluffy down comforter on any bed is going to round the lines.

I would reframe it in a simple frame and remove it from the knick knack shelf. Put it on a (small) wall alone or with a few objects and let the artistry (and love) speak for itself.

Instead of pins I would use velcro or sew it closed (in a spot theat is covered by the frame so it doesn't show). I have used a bed spread as well as a high thread count dark sheet. Both worked ok for what they were.

I didn't understand either. So I googled it and they were defined as "social bookmarking icons". Still a little unclear as to how this operates....I guess we can use them to submit articles we like or want to other sites....hmmm. I guess I am a Luddite but I think I neet remedial chicklet training.

My cousin remodled the bath in her home in London (yikes 10 years now). It was lovely. As I recall, instead of two smallish rooms she had lots of windows, a double sink, armchair (like the one pictured), book shelf, big claw foot tub and the washer and dryer in a big linen closet. There was room for an ironing board. She had three young kids at the time and awkward pauses in conversation were not an issue. She was able to bathe one and the other two could play in the same room or she could fold laundry and supervise washing up and at the end of the day, enjoy a nice long bath when they went to bed. When I take a bath in my puny rental apt bathtub, I remember that bathroom and that tub wistfully.

I wonder if the felt doors that maxwell and skgr used in there apt would work. I thought they looked great in their apt and it might provide a bit of a noise buffer.

Good Questions: How Best To Cover My Washer/Dryer?

I don't think it is illegal to have a bedroom without a window. That would however depend on the building code of whatever muncipality you live in. Generally, legal apts require 2 means of egress.
I would really advise against chopping up the landlord's furniture into little pieces. Trust me if he is a stickler about the painting ...he's really going to notice if he rents a furnished apartment and gets back an unfurnished one. At the very least he will take your security deposit and possibly take you to court. If he has other apts (as many college town slum..I mean landlords do) then he can find a place to store some extra furniture. Try telling him that you have your own furniture and you need it less furnished to accomodate your own stuff. The stuff that is there is not that bad...I would not buy it, but it is not bad. Although, after reading all the bedbug posts on this site I am now kind of skeeved by anything used and upholstered....so I would lobby hard to get him to remove the chair and the couch and live with or hide the rest.

That said, the simplest thing would be to paint the grid. I think fabric might be soften either the ceiling or the walls. I think on this site you will find instructions on how to hang a curtain as a room divider (basically using wire instead of a curtain rod ikea sells it but you can probably get the same items from a local hardware store)...the same system could be used on 2 of the walls to cover the blandness that surrounds you.

Maybe also suggesting that he rotate the display of some of his favorite items....so there isn't so much all the time. The rest could be packed away in a kitten free zone...Lending his collection a museum quality aura.

Some of the smaller items could be grouped together in a shadow box, or collector's box--with a glass front and then displayed on the wall or a coffee table.

But that's a lot of Yoda to try and decorate with. May the force be with you.

I agree less clutter more treasure. I am not wild about mirrors. I think a contrasting color along the back would be nice. If you have good glassware it might be nice to display it and create a bar area since it looks like it is off your kitchen in your living room...if you could figure out a way to light it discreetly it might make the objects stand out ( can't tell what your outlet situation is).

It sounds unusual that you have a whole in something brand new. That said...It is the larva that make the holes. By the time they are flying the damage is done. Once infested with moths they are hard to get out. The stuff that works the best is the most toxic. In my experience they like wool the best followed by silk and then cotton. Definitely dry clean or launder stuff before putting it away for the season...I read somewhere that they are attracted body oils etc. The cedar blocks have not worked spectacularly in my experience ...at least once you have an infestation. My new plan for care is to launder and dry clean winter stuff and put in the space saver bags and then clean out closet and spray with repellant ( I purchased at container store) and then let air out for a couple of days while I am gone

I live in a studio and my only window is a big double sliding door. so light is an issue. I tried a mask (it never stayed on). I tried a canopy and it did not really work with bright, early morning light. I bought drapes and then installed blackout panel behind them and it definintely reduced the light and I sleep better. here is a link for the blackout curtains from bb@b...you would probably have to go with heavier curtains than you have now so that you would not see the liners through the curtains.

YES! Different variations...I go out to my balcony and find another door to a huge apartment....and in the dream I wonder why I had not found it before... and I immediately set about re-decorating. Sometimes in my explorations I discover that it is part of my neighbor's apartment...sometimes not. I had no idea others had this dream as well.
