What about getting a large picture frame with wide, flat edges and covering the FRAME with stickers? You could put a simple, bright print in the frame and allow the frame to be the highlight of the piece. A frame like this: http://mybarnwoodframes.com/myfiles/Black%20Wood%20Frames%20-%205x5%20Opening%20Square%20Frame%20849L.jpg ,maybe, covered in stickers.
