Paper books are wasteful and terrible for the environment. I use a Nook and love it. Beautiful Books: Designer Editions & Sets |

The details of the home are beautiful...that, as a Victorian, it appears to be flooded with light is another huge plus. I imagine once they have been in the home for a few more years it will develop more of the character and personality of the family who lives there. As it stands it looks a bit unfinished. Then again, I don't suppose a home is ever really finished. Brad & Julie's Sunny Modern Victorian House Tour |

Most of the places mentioned truly are miserable places where no one would willingly choose to live....unless they were wealthy and could create their own reality....in which case it would make sense that they do so in a more pleasant environment. New York is truly puzzling me on this list....New York is one of the greatest cities in the world. I can only imagine that they were referring to Queens (home of the Archie Bunker houses ewwwwww)...I'll give LIC a slight pass or the Bronx....Most other areas in New York are simply fabulous dahling.....if you can afford it that is. Nice apartment...love the tall and wide windows and all the light that appears to flood in. There are few things worse than an apartment with poor natural lighting, but luckily it appears you don't have to worry about that. Molly's Coloring Book Modern Apartment House Tour |

I actually agree with hanc. Its good to promote and support small business but the business has to make sense. Sometimes...ok often, one gets the feeling that these businesses are just friends of AT because as cute and even perhaps useful as the idea may seem on the surface the business model does not make sense. To charge the same price for a "slipcover" as the cost of the actual chair just does not make any sense. Especially when your business model is based on an already very cheap item (i.e. IKEA furniture). The IKEA furniture shopper is a price based shopper so one should not be surprised or defensive to find that most will not spend the equivalent of the item purchased on a "slipcover". The curtains are hung too low and the color of the curtains are too heavy for the room. Also, the fact that one set are grommet and the other is not is distracting since you can see both sets of curtains from both rooms. Because both sets are essentially the same color and hung at the same height but different sliding in mechanisms (grommet vs other ?), the eye is immediately drawn to the difference(s) in the two. I would never use curtains near a kitchen. How about a sliding shoji type screen on a track? You could even do something like 2 white carriage or barn doors with black leather pulls or simple matte black hardware How Do I Hide the Kitchen in My Studio Apartment? Good Questions |

The problem is the blue wall. Not sure why you would go with primary toned blue when you have such low ceilings. It just compresses the entire room and makes everything feel cramped and disjointed. I would go with a cool color which would help the room breathe and would likely be a better match for the curtains. Warm Curtains in a Cool Living Room? Good Questions |

This would be a non starter for me if the landlord is not removing the carpet from the walls. There is no amount of decorating you will do to make this feel like a home and if you managed to succeed it would be at a considerable cost that could have just gone into renting a normal space. Besides allergies, dust and mold another thing to consider is smell....any smells that infiltrate that place will inevitably end up stuck in the carpeted walls and floors....dare not cook curry or anything fried while living in this place. While I agree that registries should not be mentioned on the invitation, registries are not offensive at all. You are not forced to purchase something from the registry and no one forces you to go to the event. The registry simply takes the guess work out of gift giving. If anything, it is a convenience. Most people that are anti-registry and anti-gift are simply cheap or dealing with issues of financial insecurity. When invited to even a simple dinner party I bring a gift for the host/hostess so I would never, ever think of showing up to a wedding or shower without a gift nor would I ever dream of being cheap on someone's very special day. That is tacky. To attend someone's event with your hands swinging is the height of poor breeding. A Freewheeling Discussion Of Wedding Registries |

Apologies...I did not notice the unfortunate carpeting....if you wanted to go with a preppy look for the room go with the green as pink and green are classic preppy colors if done correctly...you will however have to change the bedding. You can also go in the opposite direction with a dark brown and crisp white bedding. Bedroom Paint Color Suggestions? Good Questions |

You've done an admirable job on the space. It appears that in pulling this home together you exercised considerable restraint and careful editing resulting in a clean crisp design. Bravo. I must say however, that I do not see the "French" influence in this design. I'm not sure I see any mid century either and while I'm at it I might as well add that I'm not really seeing anything that resonates as being 50's Caribbean. Perhaps I am missing something.
