This is such a nice post to read about. We are a new family, unable to buy a home at this unexpected point in our lives. Anything we could afford wouldn't be in a safe enough area or anything I would have ever imagined purchasing before. This honestly makes me feel like a failure of a mother, even more so each day that I spend on these blogs viewing nurseries that have cribs that cost as much as a month's rent for me. So much of what I look at online is unobtainable and I feel that it is really beginning to make me unhappy by comparison. It just feels good to know that maybe all the other mothers don't have things as easy as I had initially thought.

My biggest thing is to not owe on anything- live within your means. American society puts so much emphasis on living up to others expectations. Sometimes at night I'll peer into people's homes while in the car and notice that everyone has a flatscreen TV but they're in tiny ranch homes of no certain style. What is the point?

Don't buy things if you cannot afford it at that moment. Find a nice mid-class used car. Some instances are considered "good debt" but very few.

I read this post earlier today and had to come back to it. That one phrase has been bothering me. I like these blunt words in Bukowski, not the blog where I look at all things "neat" for my son. Maybe it's the feminist in me, probably the mother, Anyways, lets keep it classy, Ohdeedoh.

ugh no. I hate these lines! John Derian for Target? I wanted his trays and paperweights from a shop in Columbus, Collier West, so badly until I saw and end-cap full of his designs on plastic.

Also, do not buy the manual breast pumps! Hold off on buying even an electric one to see if this is something you'll actually use. The hospital will let you use their's. I had bought both the manual ($40) and Medela Electric ($300) and had rented from the hospital for a month before buying the electric ($45/week). I stopped pumping after....2 months?

Loora's wants are too ridiculous for me to even waste my time to comment on. ugh. None of that has to do with your family!

Yes! I was so excited to see this post! Everyone has already listed my favourite children's architecture books. When Pigaso Met Mootisse is a good book as well!
