Annemc,
After I saw your question I asked around a bit, and it seems like you've hit on quite a hot topic! Opinions vary, depending on who you ask.

In regards to Prairie Hive, my best answer is that our goal is to showcase some of the unique people and talent in our part of the country - people that don't always get opportunities for recognition.

While I think Issue One (as well as what we have planned for Two and Three) definitely captures a more Midwestern spirit and aesthetic, you never know what else we may find down the road!
