We use our changing table constantly, but we chose one that can be used as a dresser when she is older. The problem with the standard dresser is that if you need to open a drawer, it pulls out in front of you, making you have to step back away from the baby. The one we found is great because the top two drawers swing out to the sides on hinges so that you can access wipes and creams easily. Here's the one we have:

I understand the problem - you want conversation-style seating and he wants a gaming setup. Here's my solution: I think that the whole setup needs to be rotated 180 degrees so that the tv is mounted on the wall where the green loveseat is currently. You should get a better console for all of your electronics, mount the tv on the wall and change the seating arrangement. Find a console that is big enough (yet sleek enough) to fit your electronics and the stuff on the bookshelves in a neat manner. I would keep the comfy couch (since he loves it) and put it facing the television on the big wall. Have the coffee table positioned so that he can still sit on the floor and use it if he wants to (or he could sit on the couch). As for the green furniture, I would forgo it in favor of a couple chairs that have a smaller footprint. Position the chairs so that they flank the couch so that you still have conversation-style seating. I think that this will help everyone get what they want.

I agree completely and recently came to this same revelation myself. At 41 weeks pregnant, there is little I can do to make myself feel pretty. I did, however, decide to start wearing my favorite perfume everyday. Wearing it makes me feel special and makes the rest of the day brighter. I used to hoard it and only wear it on special occasions, but it just ended up sitting and collecting dust. I have a certain perfume that I always associate with my mother, and one day my daughter will say, "that smells good! Just like my mommy!"

When we bought our home, it had a peach and light blue bathroom with the peach tile extending to the ceiling in places. The floor was in bad shape and was permanently discolored and the grout was falling apart in places. We tried to salvage the peach walls, but it just started falling apart once we started renovating. We ended up having to gut the entire bathroom and start from scratch (the plaster underneath the tile was crumbling). We ended up going with a white penny tile floor and white subway tiles on the walls in a little nod to the past.
I can appreciate a good pink/green/whatever bathroom as long as it is in good shape, but ours was pretty shoddy.

I always thought that the syrup grades were counterintuitive, and we always get looks from our friends for buying Grade B because they think that it is subpar and we are being cheap. We try to explain that it tastes more "mapley," but some people just don't believe us until they taste it.

@stickstuff The cleaning products in the photo are supposed to represent the purchase of a cleaning service or the friend coming over to the house to clean, both of which would be a huge help.

I am 6 days from my due date and I agree wholeheartedly number one on the list. Bringing food is the best thing you could do. Second on the list for me would be pampering beauty products (including the creams), then cleaning help and lastly a spa treatment house call. I don't know how I would feel about the new clothes. Since I will have some extra weight and a significant belly, I might not want to buy new clothes just yet because I will be trying to work off the extra pounds in order to fit into my old clothes (which will feel like new clothes again). If you buy new clothes after birth, they probably won't fit you for very long and it will be a waste.

I am a huge fan of Bota Box. Since my husband doesn't drink, if I buy a bottle of wine, I end up having to be a lush for a few days. With the box, I can just pour a glass and not worry about it. Plus, we camp a lot and I love to bring a box with us because it travels so well and is campsite-safe.

We have an inexpensive flat-weave synthetic rug from ikea underneath our dining room table. It looks like a natural fiber, protects the floor from damage from chairs and is easy to clean. When it gets too dirty, we can just replace it, no problem. We've also found that it is not as tempting for our dog who thinks that fluffy rugs are just like grass.

I would go with a simple curtain rod hung just above the window draped with an extra long fabric panel. All you need to do is loosely wrap the fabric around the rod and let it hang off of both ends. It would frame the window and add drama without being fussy, and you could make it more modern by choosing a modern fabric - maybe one with geometric shapes.

Shutters are another good idea. That way, you could adjust the amount of light you want, and you get a lot of privacy.

When I think of zesty Italian food, I automatically think of a pasta with hot Italian sausage and peppers, or how about a pasta with puttanesca sauce? If you are simply looking for flavorful food, you can't go wrong with Italian food - basically everything they make is full of flavor.

I live in Pittsburgh and have found that while rent in the city is higher than the suburbs, buying and owning a home in the city is just as cheap as the suburbs. I find that I enjoy the people in the city more than those in the burbs - more variety of people, more ethnicities, more diversity. Also, we eat out a lot and are vegetarians, so greater diversity in restaurants and more options are key. We do, though, also take advantage of the amenities the city has to offer, such as free concerts, art crawls, festivals, super cheap city pool memberships, museums, walkability, sporting events, etc. I always wish that I could do more than I do, but then again, I feel as if I experience the benefits of the city daily, regardless of whether or not I am attending an event.

I have one integrated into my microwave and I never use it (the vent, that is). It is incredibly noisy and all it does is blow the hot air back out into the room and onto me while I'm cooking.

While dedicated bike tubes may seem at first like a good idea, it is going to lead to additional problems. When I ride my bike and I am near a bike trail but not on it due to the direction I am heading, I often hear people yell at me and intimidate me to get on the trail. The trail only takes me to a certain point, then I need to leave the trail and get to my destination on the roads. I think this would make drivers feel even more entitled to the road and thereby make it more dangerous for cyclists who need to use the road.

From one of my favorite cafes:
Apple Panini - Granny Smith apple slices, housemade veggie sausage, apple butter, and cheddar & cream cheeses on sun-dried tomato bread.

So incredibly delicious.

RSR - In bigger cities, it is common to have bars on the windows of first-floor apartments, just as a precautionary measure. I've lived in some apartments in Pittsburgh that have been in decent areas of town that still had bars on the windows, especially if you are near a business district. It is simply a matter of extra security and doesn't really speak to the community all that much.

We have a roomba and we love it! Of course, we did need to make our rooms "roomba friendly," which included getting taller legs for our couch, and keeping cords contained, but after we did that, it was good to go. We have a cat and a dog and it picks up their hair without a problem. I use it almost every day and I don't know how I lived without it. I haven't had many problems with it getting stuck on things, and it has even unstuck itself on a few occasions. I like to keep the floor free from debris, so I haven't had to pick up too much before starting the roomba (just a stray bone or chew toy), but you would have to pick those items up anyway with a regular vacuum, so I just figure that it is par for the course when cleaning the floor... no biggie.

I have found that the body of a bic pen works even better than a straw for pitting cherries and olives and the like. It isn't as flimsy. I am not a fan of gadgets and like to make due with what I have, so it works perfectly for me, especially since I only pit cherries a few times a year.

@GODWINKR I agree with the boxed wine. Ever since my husband stopped drinking, I have a hard time going through a bottle myself (although I try my hardest). In the last couple years, some really good boxed wines have started showing up on the shelves. I really enjoy bota boxes, for example. Since they are vacuum-sealed, the wine stays fresh for a very long time, which is great if you just like to have a glass with dinner.

When we moved into our home, there was thick pile carpeting on the stairs and I would slip constantly. If you step onto the stair without your full foot hitting the stair, it is very easy to slip. Since I tore up the carpet, I haven't slipped at all. I just went with the hard wood and tacked low-pile Flor tiles that I had cut in half on the stairs for increased traction.

I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how to actually purchase the wallpaper. I went to the Black Crow Studio's website, but I can't find the wallpaper shown. They have wallpaper for sale, and they have watercolors for sale, but no watercolor wallpapers. Thoughts?
