On a side note to Ohdeedoh - could we encourage photo submissions to not include pillows, blankets, etc. in crib pictures. Those of us well educated on childcare know that obviously these items would be removed once a baby is in there, but those that aren't aware might think those items are appropriate or safe. We should advocate safe sleep in every way possible.

I love the one in the picture - source please? Also, why not just chose an ornament or two that reflect your baby, their nickname, or something you associate with them. Does it really need their name or date to be their "1st" ornament? I choose 2-3 ornaments for my children each year that commemorate the year. My daughter was born in August and we've purchased 2 so far - a watermelon, which was her Halloween costume, and a little castle, because my son calls her our little princess.

I just emailed this to my dad, an amazing woodworker. It was titled "To Grandpa - I need this!". It would be perfect for my son!

We have and love the toddler Aerobed. We chose it over the Tuck-Me-In bed because it is all one piece, whereas the reviews on the Tuck-Me-In bed were that the interior portion could come deflated causing a suffocation risk. The Aerobed blows up very quickly, is comfortable for our 3-year old (we bought it when he was 2), and is very sturdy.

Blackout fabric at Joann's is usually 3 dollars a yard on sale. Unless you attach it all the way around the current shade it is not going to stay, and the only way I could think to do that would be to use a heat set tape.

I can't install a roll up blackout shade in our nursery because of the window configuration, but I did put up a tension rod, sewed the blackout fabric to some coordinating fabric for the room, made a pocket for the rod to feed through and then just lift the fabric up and secure with a little piece of the coordinating fabric and velcro (or you could tie it into place.

Old fashioned potato sack races, or 3-legged races could be fun! You could also do crab walk races.

I saw this on her website a few days ago and had to purchase it ASAP!! While I've done plenty of crafty projects, I've never attempted embroidery, so this should be a fun challenge.

Adorable, and the storage solutions used are great. One question - this is the second time I've seen the sleek legs on the the Expedit piece used in their storage space, but my local IKEA only has casters as a leg option. Where did you get them?

We use Totally Toddler as a spot cleaner, and then just wash with hypo-allergenic/dye/perfrume/fragrance free detergent and softner. I'm a firm believer that babies don't need their "own" detergent if as a family you use a gentle one overall.

This room is beautiful and calming, but c'mon "the group could splurge on their favorite pieces while saving money on others". This entire room is a splurge! Just because two items were bought at Ikea, doesn't mean they could suddenly afford the thousands and tousands of dollars worth of high end things.

There was an article a few months back about all of the harmful bacteria squeezy toys retain over time. I believe one of the suggestions were to replace them every 6 months or so.

I agree, my son loves anything he can squeeze and shoot water with during bath time, but better safe to throw and replace, then not be able to clean them.

Anything pink or red would do: strawberries, apples, red grapes, raspberries, pink yogurt, strawberry fruit juice bars, jell-o jigglers (in heart shape, of course).

We have the pictured Angelcare monitor and it was the single best purchase we made as parents. It was nice to be able to lay down at night and not worry. Regardless of your baby is right next to you in a crib, or down the hall, if they stop breathing when you are sleeping you are never going to know. For a little over $100, the peace of mind it brought us was worth it. Of course, being a worrier, we did everything else to reduce SIDS - no bumper, nothing in the crib except baby, swaddle, sleep sacks once he was older, cool temperature, etc. I only wish a company would combine a movement monitor AND a video monitor. Oh, and on a side note, our nearly 3-year old still has his Angelcare under his bed, knowing when he waked up at 2am and starts walking around within 20 seconds is very helpful! We'll be purchasing another Angelcare for #2 coming this summer!

I had a similar setup with my son. Top left drawer was one-piece gowns and sleepers. Top right drawer was onesies and pants. All the diapering stuff/anti-bac/etc we had in basket to the right of the changing pad.
