I'd either go very light grey on the walls *and* open shelving, and a slightly darker grey on the cabinets, or paint everything, the walls and the cabinets and the shelves, in one nice bright white (a cooler white). I feel like all of them being slightly different shades throws off the feeling in the room a little.

Nice! I love all the plants. I actually like the couches - they look way comfy - but some pillows would pull them into the room better. Maybe burlap or grainsack? I'd even do funky rectangular ones instead of square. Just my thoughts.

Another thing to do with a craigslist dresser is to use metal leaf - silver, probably - and cover the whole thing. Here's an example and tutorial from Little Green Notebook.
