Thanks ONEWALLKITCHEN - that's a great tip! I was wondering how to pry the pie out of the carrier.

My favorite winter cocktail is unsweetened cranberry juice, sparkling water (or sprite if you like things sweeter) and malibu rum. It tastes like sunshine. Not quite as healthy as some of the other suggestions, but still delish!

Yummy! I just made this and it turned out great! I didn't have two loaf pans, so I put the whole batch into an 8x11" pan and it came out great - squeezing the moisture out of the zucchini really lightens the crumb!

Since it's a rustic table, I'd try making the scratches blend in by adding a finish over them. If you don't like the result, then you can take it to a refinisher and are only out about $10 for trying.

I'm sure that there are plenty of options, but I like using tung oil on furniture because it's foolproof to do and resists watermarks so you don't get water rings afterwards. If you only want to treat the scratches, I'd apply some tung oil to them with a Q-tip and then buff it with a clean cloth. To treat the whole top of the table, sand lightly then apply with a cloth and then rub off. Tung oil stinks like heck, so be sure to open a lot of windows! Good luck.

If you can't have solid things like a door and window, I'd suggest adding a felt sliding door like the one in http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/ny/how-to/how-to-build-felt-sliding-doors-016848

The weight of the felt will dampen the sound and since it's not solid would likely still work within the fire code. It would also add a nice texture (and colour if you want) to warm up the loft while still looking modern. For the window space, you might be able to fashion a rolling felt shade out of heavy felt - it would definately do the trick for noise and light.

I don't have any ideas for your vanity, but I'd remove the upper cabinets to open the space up and paint the upper walls white since you've already got enough colour happening.

I haven't flipped the cushions on my sofa in years because I don't want to mess with the sweet narcotic bliss that is the way that it cradles me just so when I nap. No matter how stressed I am, I can always sleep on my sofa. I LOVE YOU SOFA!!!

I LOVE this look, so imagine my glee when I went to the Silk & Burlap website and found that the table's on sale! Still, at $1320 and 84" long, it's about twice the size and price that I'd like - anyone want to go halfsies on a table?

How about replacing the bannister with two tiers of horizontal bookcases. If you stacked a two-tier Ikea EXPEDIT laid on its side with a one-tier EXPEDIT, their combined height would be 48". To make them stable, screw the bottom one into the floor and attach the top one with hinges at the front, so that they're stable when pushed towards the stairs (ie are safe) but flip down towards the hallway when you want to move furniture up and down the stairs. No idea if that would make code, but it seems like it would be safe to me!

Of course, if you're from an area where keeping warm in the winter is more important than cooling off in the summer, you plant coniferous trees to the north because you want that blanket effect!

It's a really great space! I think that you can liven up the space by reflecting some of the green undertones that you've got in the fireplace wall. I'd pull the sofa forward about 2 feet and install a long planter (or series of planters) so that you can have some tall green plants behind. Areca palms and rubber plants are lovely and do a wonderful job at purifying the air.

Then, I'd move your ottoman to in front of the sofa so that you can put your feet up on it, and get a vibrant green chair to go in its place.

If you want a really colorful place, I'd consider swapping your carpet out for one of the bright ones from Company C (whose links are always on AT) since I think that your space is big and bright enough to balance their great colours.

After WAY too much research, I found that the table from #3 is the Heritage Pedestal Table from McGuire Furniture

Unfortunately, the price starts at $3300 - I guess that it's staying on the "love but not going to buy list"!!!

I think that the above idea of retiling the bath surround with the white tiles that are above the bath would make for the best result. However, if you want to personalize it (at the risk of the resale value, you could tile the corner - both the damaged and undamaged sides - with coloured glass tiles.
I also found some adorable accent tiles on Etsy
http://www.etsy.com/listing/36524919/beaver-plumber-art-tile-coaster?ref=sr_gallery_5&ga_ref=auto&ga_search_query=ceramic+tiles&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_facet=handmade

... but I don't think that it would be a very good idea to put something so awesome/personal into the bath area. But if you do want to go for an accent tile that looks like something in particular, I'm sure that one of the clever artists on Etsy could make something the right size for you!

Good luck!

While I'm excited to try it since I have dry hair and overripe bananas in my freezer, I can't help but wonder how to rinse it out without getting banana chunks in my shower. I guess I could rinse my hair in the kitchen sink and use the strainer to catch the banana....

Beryl,
Have you considered a window film? You apply them to the glass like mactac and they let light through while blocking the view. AT has done a few posts on them, which you can find if you type "window film" into the search box. Here are a couple that I found:

Since you're already thinking of replacing your bedside table, I'd replace it with two small white tables. If you then painted the side table that you have under your green painting and your TV stand, it would really lighten up the room (and maybe make the TV stand seem a bit less obtrusive). Then, you could add seat or accent cushions to your white chairs in a colour drawn from either your paintings or in a turquoise that complements your fab dog bed. Although I like the pattern, I think that the pintuck duvet would be nicer in white, since I don't think the current colour is a good match for your cream walls.
