I think the house is lit from within in the photos to show that the walls are translucent. From the article, it sounds like it's usually unlit.

Also, good call on the fire extinguisher. Although I must say, a stove, microwave, and pots are not essentials to everyone, according the raw vegan who lives down the block from me.

I think you guys would be surprised. The girls who live below me borrowed my toolkit last week because they don't own a single tool. My college roommate once dated a guy (well after college) who did not, in fact, own utensils. I also had a houseguest thank me once for putting a towel in her room - she had recently stayed with another friend who had a single towel and subsequently didn't have one for her to use during her stay.

AnotherJen: We pull the big cushions inside our bedroom before it rains. Not a perfect solution, but that storage chest is the biggest one we could fit and they're too big for it. The storage chest holds our fire ladder, more toys, a watering can, the umbrella for the sand table, and other random outdoor stuff.

The couch set is the Angelo Napa Springs 3 Piece in Red Tulip. I paid $1100 because they were running a promotion, but the sets they have left (no red, just blue and green) are now $1335.

Labor and material for the deck was $2500.

Not counting plants (which I've slowly added all summer) or things we already owned, the total (for construction, couches, rug, kids' chairs, chalkboard, lanterns, pillows, outdoor storage chest) was about $4000.

Wiesje: They're more attractive than most of the washable toddler splat mats I've seen, but they are plastic (you can't necessarily tell by looking, but you can definitely tell when you walk on it.) As long as that doesn't bother you, I can see one working indoors.

SabrinatheDestroyer: My deck isn't quite finished yet, but I'll post pictures when it is.

BlakeyBenny: I found the slipcover at http://www.stretchandcover.com/. I hope to reupholster it at some point . . .

Bodhikt and Jennesy: The small size of my stash and the fact it's hidden are both toddler- related. Over the past year, I've found I can really only handle one or two projects at a time (or else a few just end up languishing, forgotten), and I've been trying to only buy the yarn I need since we're really short on storage space with baby clothes, etc. And my son constantly getting in the yarn was one reason for hiding it. It does look prettier showing though!

Thanks all! I agree that it's a bit plain and needs some new hardware or brighter art above it. The wood shelf idea is great - thanks Fuzzyegg. It really was just a spur-of-moment decision, so it still needs some tweaking.

I wish I'd knit the throw! It's the Missoni Humbert throw (an awesome Christmas gift from my husband a few years ago). The colorway I have is available here: http://www.allmodern.com/Missoni-Home-Humbert-Throw-1H3PL99-MSH1258.html and the blue colorway is on sale right now at Pillows and Throws: http://pillowsandthrows.com/mis1h3pl9900160.html

Amandan: Sorry about that. I just added it.

Zimmerwoman: Ha!

Xtina & Strikermary: I think AT tries to show a full range of great design, from DIY to affordable to expensive. I can't afford a $1995 lamp either, but I love the design inspiration for when I'm out shopping at stores I can afford. Also, I'm just a sucker for pretty lamps.

According to Bolig, the apartment is 42 square meters, which is about 452 square feet. I just rounded down a bit for the post title.

Whoops - sorry for the confusion. In the Apartment Therapy article I linked to, Laure talks about the rugs and art. The picture is indeed just hammocks.

Thanks everyone!

To answer some of the questions, yes, the front was painted by The White Attic, where I bought the piece. Two-toned furniture (which I happen to love) is a specialty of theirs. If I ever decide to sell it, I might stain it, but I love it the way it is now and it works well with the other dark wood furniture in our living room and the white fireplace it sits beside. Kudos to those of you who are considering redoing a Brasilia piece yourself – if you can find one on Ebay or Craiglist that’s fantastic!
