my first homecooked (& all organic!) boiled dinner is in the oven now...my mom used to cook it when us kids were little; i haven't had a real one in years though. i can't wait to try it!

What's Cooking This Weekend?

oh i will have to make some this weekend - the trader joe's by me stinks, it is always so packed you can't move in the aisles at all. good for them, but they lose me as a customer due to the high volume of people pushing & shoving to get at items. i'll have to give these a whirl with crescent dough though, they look great!

yes! an old well-loved mug with a faded canadian goose on it & years of tea stains, that my mom swiped from my grandmother & i swiped from my mom. just the perfect size for a hot drink.

i made something like this for dinner tonight - i cooked boneless skinless chicken thighs, shredded them & then added them to a pot of penne, broccoli (just chucked in the pot straight from the freezer) along with 1/2 cup breadcrumbs & a mix of shredded cheddar & mozzarella cheese....covered it with foil & baked for 45 minutes. it was fantastic, thank you!

i've never traveled internationally, but i notice that a lot of you seasoned fliers prefer to bring your own snacks & foods on board - something i will have to remember if i ever leave the US!

my mom has worked for poison control in new england for 20-someodd years & i am always amazed, but people will eat the weirdest stuff!...believe me, just because you know it could be toxic, doesn't mean others do & the reminder is always helpful. thanks dana!

i'm not sure i understand what's wrong with calling them snowballs, either? It's a recipe, it probably has a zillion different names...thank you for sharing one of your traditions, dana!

i tried making the cheese pumpkin appetizers & am totally frustrated. the only kinds of cold pack cheese in my area does NOT roll smoothly & even frozen, cannot be made into ball shapes - more cheese ends up on my hands than in a ball. they look cute, but the blogger may want to specify a little more what kinds of cheese to use, or not to use, in our case. i'm bummed.

i love grocery shopping as a general rule; i HAVE to shop by myself though, my bf & i learned very quickly that we have different styles of shopping. i like to meander; he likes to have a list & only purchase those things. there is no hovering over a display thinking about what i could cook with that or maybe i should look at this. lol he has since left the shopping to me! the only time i dislike it is at our most local grocery store which is dirty, full of unhelpful employees & costs twice what i could pay by driving across town, including gas. it's very frustrating there.

i dehydrate my leftovers as well - it's easier for me to toss a handful of dried celery in when i'm making a soup, & i like that i still get crunch.
