Oh honestly emsworthc, food preparation accounts for literally 0.00039% of global CO2 emissions:

"Food Preparation: Baking, grilling, broiling, deep frying, braising, and other forms of hot food preparation account for .00039% of CO2 emissions. The cleanest method of cooking is sautéing using sesame oil, releasing an average of 110 micrograms of CO2 per dish sauteed. Grilling with charcoal and lighter fluid is considered to be the most emitting method, with the average hamburger requiring the release of 1350 micrograms to be 'well done.'"

I think there are bigger fish to fry here (pardon the pun). Why not focus on the 4 areas that account for 99.5% of CO2 emitted (power generation, and therefore power usage, heavy industry, commercial activity, and transportation), where the biggest changes could be made? In any case, it's a little ridiculous to call out someone for "irreparably damag[ing]" peoples' lives because they want to cook with 2 pots instead of one.

This looks like something from Ikea. Not terribly impressed.

Yeah, this has been going on forever. I think it was really popular about a year ago maybe? Anyway, still pretty cool. The iMac one is especially impressive. How did she get the metal bar thing in the picture?

With my undying love of linen, it's sort of shocking I don't have a steamer - this would be perfect.

I'd probably play Baby, It's Cold Outside - I absolutely love the back and forth in this song, one of my all-time favorites.

The black version would look oh-so-sharp in my wee little house!

They're made out of some sort of styrofoam-y light plastic, the same thing bike helmets are made out of. I love how they look, but they feel a bit flimsy in real life (a lot like the inside of a helmet).

Personally, I would do what the Consumerist does and publicly shame the companies. There is no legal reason not to, no matter what they may say in their letters. It is not libel to post the letter you received from them or tell the community who is suing you (after all, libel requires the claim to be demonstratively false), and any harshly-worded language about confidentiality or something similar that would preclude you from sharing info is not legally enforceable.

It's too bad stores feel that bringing meritless cases against AT is really the best way to combat a negative reputation. Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act provides strong protection against liability for Internet "intermediaries" who provide or republish speech by others. I'd guess that a letter from your legal counsel would be enough to get this to go away, but just remember, DON'T BACK DOWN, you are completely in the clear here. The EFF has lots of good resources about bloggers' rights, including a Sec. 230 FAQ that seems to be down right now (cached version here) and a more general defamation FAQ.

Good luck! I wish I could do more to help! Any way to donate to an AT legal fund? :)

coco - on this microwave it looks like the air vents are in the front on the bottom, so I bet it would work fine in your kitchen.

Why not take it all the way and just have a scale that calls you fat when you step on it?

Thomas- for a DVD player, you really can't go wrong with anything from OPPO. They're not well know, but their players are fantastic - as CNet says in a review: "Performing nearly as well as players costing four times the price, the Oppo DV-981HD is an unbeatable bargain for videophiles and enthusiasts." Personally I'd recommend the DV-981HD if you want the absolute best image quality, I have an older version of it and it's fantastic, it makes DVDs look almost as good as HD movies. The DV-980H is also a good choice, it's a bit more well-roundedespecially if you want component out. Here's the reviews of the DV-981HD and the DV-980H. Here's a comparison chart of all their players if you need help deciding. They're all about 10" deep, so they should fit fine.

Sorry I can't help with the Amp/Receiver, good luck in your search!

I take back my vote and vote for mgn's instead. No matter what color, it looks professional, attractive, and not just like an ad for AT.

That Ikea chair is made out of that gross plastic that they make park benches out of. It's really uncomfortable and unpleasant in real life. Too bad, cause it looks pretty decent...
