One summer, my brother and I pooled our separate extensive lego collections and built an insanely large castle that included very few actual "castle" sets. I'm with Ohjodi.

I would have once agreed with you LorieS, I had been using my grandmother's old Singer for years--up until about a year ago when it started having issues with its gears, a few hundred dollars worth of service later and it still isn't working properly. I'd have been better off buying new for the same amount of money.

And I see they've bought into Paul Allen's marketing campaign, and we end up with no mention of the Cascade neighborhood.

I always make a list of where I'd like to go, and end up putting dots on a laminated map of the place I'm visiting. I pick where I'm going to start my day--but then just end up wandering to what's nearby on my map. No worries if I don't get to everything on my list, but I don't spend a lot of time wandering around somewhere I'm not interested in. If I could get more than a few weeks a year to take vacations, I'd probably plan less.

Trust me, it's a lot more relaxed than it sounds--especially when compared with the regimented vacations my family took as a child. My mother stopped letting my father wear watches at one point because things just got ridiculous.

Last month I grudgingly turned my back on a pair of these chairs at an estate sale, and now you taunt me again?

I hope I won't go Eamesless again.

It's actually very unlikely they'll open in 2009 at this point. While they've dug their big hole in the ground, less than stellar sales on their hotel suite/condo combination units have meant they're completely retooling their concept to add in more condos. And now with the economic downturn... well we might end up with a big hole in the ground for some time to come.

You definitely get what you pay for at IKEA. I have a sofabed and chair from a line that is now discontinued that have made three moves with me and the only thing I've ever replaced on them were the slipcovers--and that was a design choice rather than a need.

These days I regard IKEA basics as a starting point--having fallen in with the hacking crowd. My first thought upon seeing the nightstand was "foot stool". Instead of assembling the top entirely, attach a thick piece of foam to the bottom, upholster with some Marimekko or other similar styled fabric, and voila!

There are also a number of tray systems available, so that sections of the green roof can be removed without having to disturb the entire roof area.

I've been reorganizing my closets, I'm finally letting myself part with a number of craft projects that have been lingering unfinished for years.

Amusingly enough, last year when looking for a new gym bag I ended up buying a stylish diaper bag--because it had a lot of great features, including the millions of pockets. So I'd love a new bag in chocolate, but as a non-parent--my ideal diaper bag gets packed with sneakers, workout clothes, and pilates gear. ;)

That one is definitely Pottery Barn. I have the "cd rack" version, which I used as a mail sorter in my landing strip when I had a roommmate. I bought mine nearly five years ago--and even Pottery Barn stops carrying things eventually, so ebay or craigslist would be the best bet for that exact piece.

I ended up coming up with this solution in the spring cure to both use a mail sorter that I no longer used and keep my cutting boards from cluttering up my counters.

Thank you orangejuice. I think there are also certainly different reasons for setting a budget than simply not having the money.

Currently I'm a renter, I also know quite certainly I'll be making a large move in the next few years to another city--that will likely involve buying. As a renter, and someone expecting to move, spending money on a piece that I might love, but might not suit the home I end up buying doesn't make sense for my budget.

But that Yang sectional I love might make perfect sense for my budget after my upcoming move.

I have been fighting for years my deeply rooted idea that if I can put it in a container and organize it--whatever the item is I obviously need to keep.

The most eye-opening moment for me in the last number of years was a friend moving into an apartment in my building with a nearly identical layout to mine--and realizing how spacious and open my apartment could feel if it weren't filled with things I don't need that I hang on to.

Finding storage space for books you read, luggage you use, etc. shouldn't be frowned upon--but I think all of us often end up with unintentional collections that we can pare down or live without.

I walk past the Seattle store daily as I go to and from my office--they recently put on display one of the Yang sectionals in a pale lavendar. While it doesn't suit my current decor (and the likely price doesn't suit my budget), I fell in love.

I end up keeping two totes always tucked into my grocery cart (which hangs in my closet), and a tiny one rolled up in my laptop bag or purse for when I just need something quick on the way home from work.

lindsey kathlene-
That was the first thing I thought of as well.

It looks like what they've done with their books is to create paper "book jackets" for them with plain paper--it's not any less functional to me than the people who seem to think it's a good idea to organize a book collection by color.

I struggle with creating an office solution that doesn't look immediately like an office--because of the size of my home I have no choice but to have my office space to one side of my living room. While I'd like it to be less obvious, that doesn't mean I'm trying to pretend that it isn't there, but it also shouldn't be a focal point of my room--especially if I'm in the middle of a messy project, it would be so much easier to just close it away in a cupboard than having to leave it all out for everyone to see when I have company (and no time for serious tidying of the office).

This is definitely over the top Martha, but I'd love to see more solutions for integrating a home office tastefully into a living room space.

Damn you IKEA.

The flickr group is fantastic Lady J. I'll have to take a picture of my purchased set in a drawer--I loved (so bought it) but have nowhere to use it. I've been pondering figuring out how to cut it into something I can put on stretchers and hang on my wall.
