So nice to see a before and after that doesn't involve a NEW paint job! The grain is spectacular, and the finished product well worth the effort! Gorgeous!

It's a great change! I love pops of color. Reading this post came through at a perfect time as I just came to the realization yesterday that I have been drawn to modern, sleek, clean and monochromatic designs in my home because my childhood home was filled with dark antiques crammed into small spaces with patterned oriental rugs. I wanted to create a clean, airy space, but after living in that space for a few years, I have come to appreciate the plants, the patterned rugs (if only to hid the dirt!) and conglomeration of pictures and pieces to make a truly uniquely styled home.

Thanks for your post, and wonderful job on that update!

This reminds me of all those futuristic movies I would watch and was fairly certain would never actually come to be, like flying cars. The future is now!

I think it would be cool to not have all those gadgets and wires cluttering up my home and be able to turn a wall into a TV Screen / Computer Screen, for example. Though the fingerprint thing would really bug me too.

I have a curved front living room in an old brownstone, so I am using a wire rod to get the curtains closer to the window. I was worried about attaching them to the drywall, but after putting them up on the window frame, i immediately regretted not placing them higher and wider to really frame these gorgeous windows! A project for a rainy Sunday I suppose...

I love the color palette - so calm and serene (maybe that would take away some of the pre-exam anxiety?!). I think some bright or even dark/moody color could be nice, but not necessary. There is something so tranquil about this space... Also love the floorplan - great use of the space!

I love it! Excellent painting skills, too. In a way, the retro shape of the dresser mimics an old race car too!

I think it's lovely. Changing up a space is always refreshing, and helps renew interest and vigor in an area, especially important in an office! So modern and clean, and without the cluttered visuals, of varying colors, it should help keep the mind calm and clutter-free as well!

Beautiful re-imagining of a dreary space! I love sleeping porches, there's nothing quite like sleeping outside on a warm summer night, or even in a rainstorm if you are well protected. I've always thought the idea of a hanging bad is so romantic (even if it's not actually used for such activities...)!

I'm guessing that the owners can lock the sliding glass doors to "fence" in the pool; i love how indoor/outdoor it is! The natural wood and glass make it feel both cozy and light at the same time.

Now, how about one of these similarly indoor / outdoor / kid friendly home for cold climates?

I agree with Elle Town - paint it a dark, bold color! It will contrast well with the white tile and appliances / furnishings. I just painted my rental bathroom a dark grey from a blah brown, and love it (http://toraskitepress.weebly.com/1/post/2011/11/new-bathroom-color-black.html)! Brighten it up with some bright and or patterned accents (e.g., towels).

Sounds like too much tech in the bedroom. Keep it simple - you'll fall asleep faster and sleep better if you're not doing your work / watching tv etc in there as well.

We live on a bright loud street, so the lights don't bother me anymore, but the only in-room light we have is our 10 yr old radio shack alarm clock.

I put a shadow box frame around our ugly door buzzer - it's a great way to hide it while keeping it accessible. The only problem is when guests come over, they have no idea how to answer the buzzer!

For years my mother would put a tablecloth on when visitors came for dinner and would have them sign their names, she would then go over the signature with embroidery thread in the color of their choice, making their visit permanent! Over the years she has a great collection of names, married names, divorced names, dates, friends she can't remember, parents and other loved ones that have since left us. It's a fantastic, colorful, long term, and movable project. I started it in my home just after I married and our friends love it!

I love the transformation! I think the rug really ties it all together too, and centers the room. Also makes it cozier which is my focus on a dreary day like today :-)

Our living room ceiling leaks - the building mgmt thought it was fixed, but every time we get heavy rain, we get an indoor wading pool. It comes through where the ceiling fan is, so if the fan is on the water sprays out! We love everything else about the apartment so we've stuck with it. Countless days of rain, repair men, and money fixing everything they can think of and it's still an issue (much better than before, but still there). I just keep all my valuables off the floor and away from the center of the living room. And I turn the fan off on rainy days!!

This is great! When I was young I used to wonder why my mom went into a panic every time guests came for a visit - they are friends, and this is the way we live, shouldn't they be accepting of us no matter what our home looks like? (And yes, I didn't want to help clean). My 10-year olds wisdom quickly disappeared when i had a home of my own, not wanting to invite people over unless it was spotless. It's a nice reminder to invite friends over more, regardless of the mess! Love #2, and I always engage hint #4!

We currently have an extra futon mattress under our bed. Great for guests, but cumbersome to get out and a pain to move the bed around. I want to get rid of it as I love the look (and feeling!) of space under the bed.

I love the idea of the mandolin as art -- perhaps you can store other things in the mandolin case to maximize storage?
