All materials, mined and processed, take resources. Energy, people, and environmental impact vary depending on the material. There is still an impact though. Best is to buy as local as possible, and make or create as much yourself as possible.

How are Compact fluorescent lights a marketing hoax? A CFL bulb that puts out the same lumens (amount of light) at 14 watts that an incandescent bulb puts out using 60 watts, saves money. Less electricity for the same task equals less money spent. That isn't a hoax. CFLs last several years, where incandescent bulbs need yearly replacement. We see return over cost at 1 year or less for bulbs used 24 hours a day.

Without notice, Netflix just changed how many movies can be watched on different devices at the same time. So as our daughter is watching re-runs of the Andy Griffith show on the Wii, we can't watch a movie. Too much to ask for a heads up? Was Netflix purchased over night by one of the networks or MPAA? After the price hike, they come back with this. Making it even more odd is that they are linking the number of watch sessions to the number of DVDs you can have out. How does that make sense?

Q: Can I watch movies instantly on more than one PC or Netflix-ready device?

A: Some membership plans allow you to watch simultaneously on more than one personal computer or Netflix-ready device. If you are on the Unlimited Streaming plan, the Unlimited Streaming + 1 DVD out-at-a-time plan or a limited streaming plan, you may watch only one device at a time.
If you are on the Unlimited Streaming + 2 DVDs out-at-a-time plan, you may watch on up to two devices at a time. Members on the Unlimited Streaming + 3 DVDs out-at-a-time plan may watch on up to three devices at a time. The maximum is four devices at a time -- available for members on the Unlimited Streaming + 4-or greater DVDs out-at-a-time plan.

iPhone USB power adapters are only 5 volt 1 amp supplies. An iPad will refuse to charge when plugged in. Good point though in making sure the adapter supplies enough amps. An iPad adapter will charge both. A 2.5-3a car adapter will charge both as well, at a much slower rate for the iPad.

Yes. Peat harvesting is destructive to the source environment. Most of the peat sold in the US comes from Canada. The bog land is first drained, then cleared of any living plants. It's allowed to dry out, then the peat layers are scalped, vacuumed, until all "sell-able" peat is harvested. This destroys the natural balance for the animals that live there, and kills the plant life.

It's argued by the producer/harvesters that bogs are renewable. However the plants and animals have been killed or driven out, so renewing a bog takes a very long time, hundreds of years.

Mail in, junk out. Read and/or shred inbound paper as you bring it in. If it's already in your hand, don't waste time by sitting it down, and having to pick it up again later to sort/file it. Handle it once.
