@annstarrr - the bottle is supposed to let sediment settle, which is one of the reasons you are "supposed" to decant the bottle. Shaking it would negate that whole process!

It depends on whether it's a little disheveled or if it's falling apart.

Beautiful apartments are less wonderful if roaches come in from the garbage left in the hall. Even though home may be an oasis, if I don't feel comfortable going out after dark I don't want to live there.

That being said, living in a less-well-maintained apartment building for a year and a half was a great decision - the rent was affordable and we were able to save up to buy a car and move to a wonderful new place (that's a little farther from transportation options).

We recently bought the Stella sofa from EQ3 and love it to pieces:

I love my apple-shaped mechanical timer for baking and roasts. I can carry it to wherever I am in the house, which is super convenient so I don't get carried away entertaining and forget to take dessert out of the oven!

On the other hand, having a complete set of Allen wrenches with a holder that lives in my tool chest, and getting rid of all the furniture assembly ones from IKEA, was absolutely worth $5 at the hardware store.

Going somewhere without cell reception is an amazing way to do this. The cat-sitters and parents know the number of the hotel in case of emergency, but otherwise it's just a time for my family to get connected...hiking, camp fires, etc. That might be considered a major tech vacation, though!

* If you have two sets of tights in the same color, each with a run in one leg, you can cut those legs out and wear them together.

* With a glass jar as a seed sprouter. Alfalfa, broccoli, etc.

If you're feeling crafty, you can also get colored shelf liner/contact paper and cut out what you want with an Xacto knife. A friend does that on her walls and it always looks amazing!

A friend of mine had ends of purple and white paint, and did the room in a similar way, but with several stripes of purple that got paler and paler as it went higher up the wall. I liked that, but this one feels too much like an unfinished job to me.

My partner is a social worker for a transgender drop-in center, and we're making Thanksgiving dinner for them (about 35).

I have three spatchcocked turkeys resting in my fridge (one is getting cooked tonight, two tomorrow), and they're going over a bed of carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions and a couple of apples.

We're also doing the soup - butternut squash (curried, with coconut milk so it's creamy but still vegan/allergen free), and black bean-pumpkin.

Rolls are rising, cranberry sauce is done. Two apple pies are in the oven right now, and as soon as I pick up another bag of sugar, applesauce cake is going in the oven.

Green bean casserole is going to come together tomorrow.

Other people are bringing mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffing, pumpkin pie, and ham.

Maybe we'll grab a last-minute green salad, too.

Then I'm going to sleep all day Friday!
