Looking at that bottom picture while watching a Dirty Jobs episode brings up horrible associations... Still, a fun idea. I'll have to give this a try.

My husband makes an amazing meal from a generic Japanese cookbook we have. I think the dish is called Chazuke. I'm not the cook, so my description may not be perfect, but he crusts salmon with coarse salt and broils it. He makes up some rice and some green tea. Put some rice in a bowl, break in some bits of the salmon (after knocking the salt off), cut some dried nori strips on top, then fill the bowl with green tea. Top off with a touch of soy sauce. We've made this dinner for many people, including some very picky eaters, and everyone has loved it.

My little girl loves "stealing" the apple peels from me when I'm peeling apples to bake. I guess she thinks it's a special treat I'm making an exception to let her have. Oddly, the same child keeps eating her apple slices without eating the peel.

My husband and I planned not to use a bumper, but gave in and got one when she was maybe 6 months. She was a wiggly kid, even in her sleep (still is!) and she developed a tendency to whack her head against the side of the crib and wake up crying. She was terrible to get back to sleep, too, so we gave in and got a bumper, with a slightly guilty conscience, hoping she was past the really risky stage.

I showed this book to my 5-year-old daughter at Barnes and Noble. I thought she would find it interesting to look at, because she loves the comic format. Before I knew it, we'd read at least 1/3 of it. Everytime I finished one, she begged for the next. Definitely a hit.

So this is a $125 glass bottle with a hunk of burnt wood inside? Um, how do I get in on this market?

I make something a little like this sometimes. I essentially make a smoothie - frozen banana, Nutella, a bit of Ghiradelli sweetened cocoa, plain yogurt, and milk, all pureed in my food processor. Then I put it in the freezer, check it every 10 min or so and stir it, until it hits the ice-creamy consistency I want. It's my "I need chocolate but I want to be semi-healthy about it" dessert. I don't really know if it qualifies as healthy with the Nutella and the cocoa, but I can at least pretend. Sometimes I grind up some hazelnuts first, adding an interesting (weird?) texture to it.

That's beautiful! My first thought was that I want to do that... my second thought was that I can't see more than an inch or two of the back of my daughter's bookcase. Nor could I imagine finding the space for such an empty set of shelves.
Sigh. So awesome, though.

We have 2 sets of Blik graphics in our daughter's room. One is a permanent one, and the others are reusable. She can't reach either, so I can't comment on whether she would peel them off, but the reusable ones are on her ceiling. I would think if any would peel, it would be ceiling ones! We haven't seen any signs of peeling off, and they've been up about 2 years now.

The mugs are nice, but I'm really interested in the sign in the first picture. My husband (an obsessively-devoted Alton Brown fan) would love that! Any chance anyone knows where it's from?

I think you just greatly improved my life! I could eat roasted garlic all the time, but don't often have the foresight to make it. I think my freezer will soon be filled with roasted garlic cloves.
(By the way, I'm curious about the picture, too!)

This doesn't seem like such a ridiculous question to me. It's kind of like finding a product on sale for a great price (imagine 10 cents for a worthwhile amount of anything!) and then finding a way to use it all.
My family is on WIC, and often have too much milk, because they put two gallons on one of our checks and only one quart on another. That alternates us between too much and too little milk (1 gallon at a time works perfectly for us.) Freezing works fine for us, but I love the hot chocolate idea. I should do that - right now!

When my daughter was one, I got her a Fisher-Price sing and go animal train for Christmas. I loved trains as a child, and wanted to share that with her early.
Unfortunately, this was how we discovered that she was terrified of any toy that moved forward on it's own (such as remote control cars, electric train sets, etc.) It did have a mode that allowed you to turn off the movement, so you could just hear the music. She liked that, but if she accidentally moved the switch back so it would go forward, or had a friend over who moved it, we had to rush to turn it off as she wailed in terror.
On the plus side, she did enjoy the animals quite a bit.
