@Katrinamaye I have a Newfie also and I have to agree about the Dyson, you'll need to clean out the brushes every week if you don't kill it completely.

As far as colors go we've found that browns or a varied pattern (think persian) works the best for hiding hair, dirt, stains, etc. Blue would be nice with the grey. Leather is the best for cleaning or get some nice slip covers you can just throw in the wash. Rain mats for taking the dirt of the paws when they first come in is very helpful too.

We've learned that with 4 dogs, one a very slobbery and messy Newfoundland, that leather couches and chairs are the best for animals. Much easier to clean hair and drool off of leather. Rugs with Scotchguard, short piles, and a design hide stains and dirt better. The Dyson is NOT great for dogs with longer fur as it tends to get wound up in the brush to the point where you have to cut it out once a week. Our next purchase will be an industrial type drain cleaning machine because we found out this week how expensive it is to have Roto Rooter come out on a Sunday to unclog your drains!

Oh, and I'm in complete agreement on having kids off of the furniture! I have a scar on my face to prove you shouldn't flip over the couch because you may hit a glass table on the way down! (my brother has one to match)

TJ's has mulling wine spices in a canister that you can just simmer on the stove. Scent is amazing and lasts for hours.
